Could do a big 'This is your Life ' book and better still if many of the people in it appeared. It's also easy to obtain a newspaper from the day he was born. Same can be said for disc etc. Some of these things can be expensive to buy. My daughter was only 30 last week but I got her a huge card and just through the web looking up the date or year she was born I wrote also sorts of things in the card, examples News from that day, No 1 hit, best films of that year, stars she shares her birthday with, prices of everyday items all those years ago with etc. The list is endless. One very special thing is you can actually get a star named after a person so that would be another idea. Good luck but as you sound so thoughtful I am sure your dad will just be glad of yourself and family there.

I heard this advice before and it worked for me with my Dad. Really look at his life now. What is it that "he" really enjoys doing the most? Reading, if so what is his favorite author? If he enjoys golf, maybe a special collector item. You know him best. If it is his family, "London Lady" had an awesome idea above. My brother did that once and it was so cool for my Dad. He just took pictures that he had of my nephew and my Dad together, bought a large picture frame, cut around the pics to cut out any unneeded stuff, put a nice paper over the whole back of the picture frame and them taped the pictures, (with the tape on back). You KNOW your Dad, just think of things he enjoys.

You could treat him to a special day out that involves doing something that he likes following by a nice meal. This could be a visit to the theatre, place he has always wanted to go, something he has always wanted to do, hot air balloon, etc.

An alternative idea as a keepsake would be to put together his family history and present it to him on a nice chart - lots of info on how to do this at www.familysearch.org.

Another suggestion is to put together a scrapbook of his ancestors and phases of his life up to the big 60.

Do hope these ideas will be of help - enjoy and have fun putting together your plans to make his day special. Am sure that whatever you do he will appreciate it greatly.

I'm a dad myself and the one thing I want is pictures of the kids when they were little. Get a big picture frame and fill it with pictures of you growing up. That will be priceless.

I got my dad some golf clubs, shared with my sis and bro.

For my boss I got him an engraved hip flask.

Something engraved would be nice with 60 on it and who its from to remind him.
