Louisiana was the last state to change the drinking age to 21. Congress pressured the state to change by threatening to withhold highway funding. I think it changed around 1995. In New Orleans, the law for most bars is that it is 18 to enter and 21 to buy a drink, which allows somewhat of a loophole.

It is 21 in every state to legally buy and possess alcohol. Most legislation states that a person under 21 cant buy or possess alcohol, but doesnt mention consume. But if you cant have it in your possession you cant really drink it because once its in your mouth you are technically in possession of it.
And Wyoming was the last state to change the drinking age to 21, it happened in 1998. Starting in 1984, the federal government did withhold federal highway funding from any state that did not have a drinking age of 21.

probably they have changed it by now, but when I lived in Mississippi we used to be able to go to a DRIVE THRU daquiri place over the bridge in Louisiana because the drinking age was 18 at that time. Hopefully they have closed that place down- as an adult now I see that was an accident waiting to happen.

Not legally, no. I live in New Orleans, so trust me. But if you look old enough, a lot of bars in the French Quarter don't card, I have a lot of friends under 21 that go out.
