I tried mallowash and many flea powders and shampoos with little result. Would prefer to use natural rather than insecticidal.

You really need to take your dog to the vet to get the proper treatment options. This is not something you will be able to treat successfully on your own.

The treatment depends on whether it is sarcoptic mange or demodex. Sarcoptic is a contagious parasite. Demodex is not. In any case, I know of no natural treatment for mange. You should get advice from a vet and follow his treatment plan.

I think it would be cruelty to not get proper vet treatment for the very painful and itchy sarcoptic mange. Demodex is more ugly than painful, but it could become a worse problem if you wait and try a bunch of unhelpful concoctions.

Bite the bullet and go to the vet for the good stuff. Your dog will thank you.

Is this demodex or sarcoptic mange? Treatment is different for each. Demodex mange needs a stress free environment for the dog and a high quality food so the immune system can rebuild its defenses. Sarcoptic mange will need meds along with a strong immune system.
All those chemicals you've tried are just stressing the immune system even more.

What kind of mange is it?

Is it the so-called "puppy mange"? Or are you talking about sarcoptic mange which can spread to people?

Flea powders and shampoos will do nothing against the mites that cause mange.

You need to see a vet who can test the dog, make sure it is manage and proscribe the best creams/shampoos/whatever.

Although mange is no longer considered a "death sentence" for a dog, it can still be very serious--especially if untreated, or mistreated. Please call your vet.

I agree with the first post. You must get your dog properly diagnosed to properly treat him. Insecticidal agents cannot reach mites, which are buried into the skin, and will probably cause even more irritation.

There are also 2 kinds of mites commonly seen...Demodex mites and sarcoptic mites. Most dogs carry the Demodex mites which can cause the 'red mange'. 'Red mange' is actually caused by a genetic weakness to the mite and it helps to have the animal altered, especially in females. Also, it is treated usually with a very specific dip. Sarcoptic mange is treated differently and will usually not re-appear unless the dog is re-infected by direct contact with another dog carrying the mite.

I know you would like to go the natural route, but the treatments available are going to be man-made chemicals. However please don't delay as if it is mange, it is EXTREMELY irritating and painful to the dog. Perhaps after treatment since you would like to use a natural product, you could spray him with some aloe vera and water, which could promote healing.

good luck

Sometimes there just isn't a natural cure for things and in the meantime your dog is suffering a lot, mange is painful and every day you wait the more pain the dog has to go throught. Mange burrows through the skin to lay its eggs, once the eggs hatch the new parasites lay more and more eggs with each cycle.

Ultimately you dogs skin will degrade so much diseases will be able to infect him and ultimately he will die from one of them -- he has lost his natural defence. There are a lot of bacteria out there that the skin kills or doesn't allow inside the body.

Please be kind to you dog and end his suffering and take him into a vet. Do you think it would hurt you if you had insects burrowing into your skin and laying their eggs? That is what your dog is feeling.

I know this sounds crazy but I have had several dogs growing up with mange and the best way to fix it is to cover the dog with used motor oil from your car. have somebody change your oil, save it and cover your dog in it. You will not want to wash it off for a few days so the dog must be able tio stay outside. This has cured at least 3 cases of mange for me. This is a old country remedy. Best of luck!

Flea shampoo won't get rid of mange. You need to see your vet about treatment. They will also have to test for it first because it might not be mange at all.

If you think your dog has mange, please take it to the vet. If your dog has the mange the vet will give you a dip to use on him. Mange is catching. one type of mange is caused from the scabies mite ;
and I heard it was terrifying if you caught it. And then you would have to go to a Dr to be treated. Hope your dog gets better and good luck.

Has your pet been diagnosed with the mange? I would strongly suggest that he/she see a vet for proper diagnosis and treatment. There is no home remedy for the mange.
