Static electricity can be thought of a stored electrical energy. Stored electrical energy is useful in thousands of ways. One of the most common is in a component known as a capacitor. A capacitor will store a static charge until such time as you want to use it. Not unlike a battery which does the same thing using chemistry. Capacitors are used in virtually every electronic device you own. Sometimes a static charge is unwanted. Note what happens when you touch a metallic object after walking across a carpet. A static charge builds up on your body that is released when you touch a conducting surface. You feel the release, but not the buildup.

wow to i hate static electricity.

My hair stands on end. I start making shocks on everything i touch. I hate it

I guess the advantage is you can take a ballon and rub it on your head and have your hair look like frankenstein. Or when you rub your feet on carpet and when you touch something you get shocked really bad. LoL
