Even though you have not activated the credit card it still shows up as an active account on your credit.

If you are attempting to build up your credit, I suggest activating the account, charging a small amount and paying it off immediately. Charge something you would normally have to purchase anyway such as groceries or pay a bill on-line. In this day and time most credit card companies allow customers to set up their account and pay on-line so immediately after making your initial charge go to the on-line website for your credit card and pay the bill using the cash you allocated for the purchase.

Creditors look at how well you pay your bills so that must have something to judge against.

Yes, it will effect your credit. But not always in a bad away unless you have MANY accounts open. Having one or two open wont do much to your score.

Keeping several open credit accounts shows creditors that you have access to alot of money which can get you trouble.
