Islam is against terrorism. But you can defend yourself if attacked. Alot of non-muslims are with the idea that muslims are urged to kill, but they failed to notice that only a minority, may be 5% of the world muslim population is violent. If muslims are actually urged to kill non belivers, then, the world would not be as peaceful as it is.
Secondly, the Qur'an says a group of people cannot be responsible for others' offences, that is, the killing of innocent American and British civilians on 911 and 7/7 is entirely wrong.

"There is no compulsion in religion" as the Qur'an puts it, therefore, converting people to Islam is not by sword, but through dialogue and understanding.
Those extremists are only acting either ignorantly or politically in the name of religion.
The media is also not helping things.

Muslims condam extremism, terrorism and all the -isms you can find. Muslims are told by the One Who Knows that you should not be on either extremes of the religion, but in the middle. Be regular in your practice and follow the guidelines of God, they are the key to Heaven.

Extremism in any form in any religion is bad. You will find only an extremely small minority of muslims resorting to extremism, and that is because most of them are not educated enough to understand their own religion. However, it is not only muslims that have extremists among them, there are extremists in every other religion, its just that the muslims are given a lot more coverage.

A lot of people are saying Muslims condemn terrorism and extremism but no one is saying it personally. Is it not true that in the Qu'ran that anyone who is a non muslim is an infidel(animal?) and that its ok to kill them. If this is true then the self defence argument is flawed as it would only apply to other muslims.

The life of the prophet muhammad serves as an example set for us.

He has always been a man of the middle road.

And thats what they teach you in sharia school

the middle road...not this..not that...the middle road.

no extremism in any way.

Extremism in Islam has been the direct result of Wahhabism

You should read up on it. Its a cult.

The reality is muslims are only allowed to fight in self defense.

The teachings of the Prophet on how you and I should treat our Non-Muslim friends and neighbours on a day to day basis as well as how to government should treat a Non-Muslim citizen of a Muslim state.

"He who believes in God and the Last Day should honour his guest, should not harm his neighbour, should speak good or keep quiet." (Bukhari, Muslim)

"Whoever hurts a Non-Muslim citizen of a Muslim state hurts me, and he who hurts me annoys God." (Bukhari)

"He who hurts a Non-Muslim citizen of a Muslim state, I am his adversary, and I shall be his adversary on the Day of a Judgement." (Bukhari)

"Beware on the Day of Judgement; I shall mysefl be complainant against him who wrongs a Non-Muslim citizen of a Muslim state or lays on him a responsibility greater than he can bear or deprives him of anything that belongs to him." (Al-Mawardi)

"Anyone who kills a Non-Muslim who had become our ally will not smell the fragrance of Paradise." (Bukhari)

Nothing in the Koran specifically states that the faithful are allotted 72 virgins apiece.

For this elaboration we turn to the hadith, traditional sayings traced with varying degrees of credibility to Muhammad. Hadith number 2,562 in the collection known as the Sunan al-Tirmidhi says,

"The least [reward] for the people of Heaven is 80,000 servants and 72 wives, over which stands a dome of pearls, aquamarine and ruby."

Conclusion:
There is no such thing as 72 Virgins for killing an infadel
