You must have a good all round diet, well balanced with plenty of your 5 a day and lots of water to keep your whole system tip top, Protein must be high on list as it is the building block for muscle growth, thats why there are so many hi protein drinks and snacks, Stick to lean chicken and white meat as much as possible, but obviously lean red meat (steak) is also good in moderation. Speak to someone at your gym for more personalised advice that is what they are there for. Also check out other hi protein foods like nuts, Just remember to keep it health and balanced and dont do to much to soon.

The best foods for weight lifting are lean proteins and please especialliy try some high quality protein powder. Low carb high quality protein powder are low fat, but high in quality protein which is great for building muscle. If you are going for primarily weight lifting, then yes, go for lean proteins, especially shakes before your workout and cut down on sugar and other carbohydrates unless you are going to be running etc. Also, if you are saerious about building muscle, a REALLY good book to check out is 'The Abs Diet.' It Is written by the editor and chief of Men's Health magazine, and it has phenomenol information about nutrition and the best foods to eat if you are going to be doing weight lifting. Another really good book is called 'protein Power', which you should be able to find at your local library. It also has really good information about protein and lifting weights. But the best thing that you can do is for sure go to your local GNC and get some ultra high quality protein powder and drink a protein powder shake before your work out and this will help to build muscle and give you strength. Also, definitely cut out all junk food, especially sugary stuff, and focus on eating lean meat, like chicken, turkey, or lean steak( like round steak is good because it is lean and inexpensive). When you are buying steak look for pieces that look lean, meaning they do not have alot of fat running through them or you can also trim the fat off the edges before you cook it and also removing the skin from your chicken and eating roasted or baked chicken breast is best, not kfc. If you check out the books that I reccommend, you will find that they have a lot of helpful information, but please ignore what they say about it being ok to eat a lot of fatty meat and cheese. It is not good to eat alot of fatty meat and cheese, even if you are only eating protein because all that fat is still going into your body and and it still will lead to high blood pressure, heart disease, streokes, obesity, etc. That is why it is best to stick with lean protein and and an assortment of fruits and vegtables. Wow! Good luck!

The old-time bodybuilders had a programme called 'squats and milk' which revolved around heavy, 20 rep squatting and drinking 6 pints of full fat milk a day. It is widely regarded as being one of the fastest methods of gaining solid weight in existence. Note it isn't the 'squats and meat' programme; the main source of protein and calories is vegetarian!

The best way is to take a bodybuilding supplement start of with protein shakes but i wouldn't take anything for at least a couple of month's because if you train hard enough eat right i.e balance carbs, protein, sleep etc.. you will be fine.

Good luck :)

Hmmm, I wouldn't advise weight lifting and eating at the same time - could get a bit messy, a bit like drinking and driving lol.

Seriously though, protein is the key and lots of it - raw eggs, omlettes, tuna, etc.

Always have vegetables on palm. Saute a big bag of frozen mixed vegetables in organic olive oil and garlic. Add some red pepper as well as turmeric for additional flavor as well as separate into portion-sized containers for that fridge.
