conture farming detail in the landscape in the western part of MO. Why this configuration?

If you want to farm an area that isn't totally flat, you have a couple of options. The first is to plow straight up and down the slope of the hill. The creates channels for water (rain, melted snow, etc.) to flow through quickly, resulting in a loss of topsoil due to runoff. The other alternative is to plow perpendicular to the slope. This prevents erosion of your topsoil. That is why farmers plow with the contours of their land.

This doesn't only take place in western Missouri either. It is practiced in places where you have fertile soil but uneven terrain.

its a deceptive aht, if the HHN was reversed it would clear.
