I recently travled to southern india and ate UNBELIEVABLE food , which was made with all kinds of pulses, beans, veggies of all sorts and prepared in all different ways, and fresh squeezed juices and NOBODY SMOKED , NOBODY DRANK, and people drank a yogurt drink called lassi. I have never been feeling so healthy in my whole life. It was great.

I have been reading some of the comments concerning Indian food since I have been on Yahoo answers and I dont know if their information is either ignorant , mis informed, or biased , but INDIAN FOOD IS NOT UNHEALTHY AND FATTENING! I could not believe all the answers I was reading. People saying stuff like rice is fattening. and they all seem to promote things like Weight Watchers Toast instead! I cannot understand it!

To the lady above Jane B. I think you are definitely wrong concerning rice. People in China and India eat plenty of rice all throughout their history for the very reason that it is of high nutritional value and provides plenty of energy. I dont know why you continue to promote the not eating of rice. You are simple misinformed or biased I think so.

I think this is probably aimed at me since I answered this question. White rice is a refined carbohydrate and as such has very little nutritional value. India, along with China, has the highest rate of diabetes and it is because of diet - too many refined carbohydrates. I think your assertion that peopole must be ignorant, misinformed or biased. I can assure you I am none of these, have visited India at least 12 times and have lived there for some fairly long periods. Loads of people smoke in India (but its the law that they are not allowed to smoke outside) and plenty of people drink Fenny (to the extent that some people go blind). Lots ofpeople in India do not drink but there are plenty that do. Some Indian food is very healthy and some is not. White rice is not healthy. Much Indian food in the UK is also not prepared in the traditional way and often contains large amounts of artifical colouring, sugar, fat etc. I also do not promote Weight Watchers toast. As you have been to India you may well have noticed that the vast majority of people who have plenty of money in India end up rather on the rotund side - all the skinny ones are the ones who cannot afford to eat enough to make them fat.

Anything is unhealthy if consumed in high quantity. Lassi tends to have quite a bit of refined and natural sugar in it. Lamb and such meats tend to be quite fatty. Refined, bleached rice isn't as good for you as whole grain rice. It's about making a healthy choice based on the type of food you want to eat. The sauces tend to be starchy. Instead of bleached jasmine rice, use a whole grain rice.

As long as you're getting a healthy amount of fruit, vegetables, an appropriate amount of protein and grain, you'll be fine no matter what you eat. You don't need to follow diets such as weight watchers if you know how to read a food label and know what a real portion size is when it comes to certain foods.

mmm now I want indian food for lunch....

Potato skins are completely fit for human intake, and extremely nutritious. only stick to everyone else's suggestion, and cargo them with William Maxwell Aitken, bitter cream, cheese, etc. that may no longer too sturdy for you. people's aversion to potato skins ("jackets") is probable via actuality that the exterior is what touches the soil, via fact the potato grows. airborne dirt and airborne dirt and mud (apart from being grimy) can incorporate all forms of pathogens, the main popular being salmonella (potatoes enhance on a farm; so do chickens). yet by skill of the time you're eating them, the potato skins have been thoroughly washed, then completely cooked, which removes any risk of foodborne ailment.

Because the majority of people are too lazy to do their own research and choose to listen to Hearsay instead. Then they continue to spread the word of hearsay as if it's the entire fact. Before you know it, everyone believe it to be factual because everyone heard the same thing. Ignorance is bliss and there are many orgasmic people.

As long as you eat 100% certified organic food then you're eating healthy food. No matter where the food is coming from.
