I just purchased a random multivitamin because I'm always catching colds and feeling tired. Although I have no clue what each vitamin does, and would like to know. I know about vitamin C, but I would like to know what the following vitamins do: Vitamin A, D, E, Thiamin (B-1), Riboflavin, Niacin, Folic Acid, Iron, Vitamin B-6, B-12, and Pentothenic Acid.

Also, are the above ingredients enough to ensure optimal health or are some additional vitamins/minerals required?

Do not use a random multivitamin as it most likely will not be well absorbed by the body. Do some research on mulitvitamins that are well absorbed by the body and then purchase a brand that you find is well absorbed. Also you will need to take a good antioxidant supplement to help boost your immune system. It sounds like you were not taking a vitamin before which you should have been. Since you are not familiar with vitamins do some research on the web before you take one and be sure it is a brand that your body will absorb well.

Do a Google search for "learning about vitamins". You'll discover much.
