Humankind.

From the mouths of babes, right?

I wish we could all ask questions that honestly and openly. 'God' as he is known in religion, is a construct of man. From the god of storms he evolved into the head of a pantheon, and later became the only god of the Israelites, a God of Laws and Punishment. Later, the Christian church assigned different attributes to that same god, and he became a god of Compassion, and finally, Islam made him a god of Submission.

As to the real, actual 'higher power/creator' out there, if it even exists. Couldn't begin to give you an answer.

Thanks for being brave enough to post the question though!

And God says in the Bible I am the Great I am. He just IS! Man is so afraid of not having an answer to something, that he has to have an answer to everything in order for him to feel comfortable. Man doesn't like that which he cannot control by touching, tasting, smelling, hearing or seeing. In order to except God as almighty, man would have to take a submissive role. Most men cannot do that and so they force themselves to believe the logic of other men failing to realize those other men are just like him and have to make an answer for their own rationalizations to feel comfortable. The end result, you are decieved by your own selves just to have a sense of control. You never even see God in the universe because you are too focused on yourselves and what makes things feel RIGHT for you.

Ah, the oldies but goodies. Your son is quite the philosopher.

The most obvious answer is: Man made "God" to explain to himself his own ignorance.

Logically speaking, "God" is indefinable, a meaningless term, because to define is to limit, and the traditional definition of God as a Being omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent, i.e. without limit in any dimension, is therefore a mere rhetorical flourish. In fact none of these "descriptive" terms can actually describe anything to the human mind. We think we know what we mean by them; but all we are really doing is defining the limits of our own knowledge. When sentimentalists gush "God is, has been, and always shall be - I think that's the most biblical answer" (pause for laughter), they're simply "explaining the obscure in terms of the more obscure." That's theism for ya.

God.

Tell your son, if any power in the universe created God, then that power would be God. It's a logical paradox that circles around continuously. The only way to level it off and hold it in place is by using the word, God.

Your small son is really smart, but my smart spirit tells me that this comes from yours, not from yours son's one. Never-mind, I think that this is a very natural question to come in mind, as suggested by the Prophet Muhammad: if u are Muslim, what you have to think and say when such questions come to you, is "AMANTOU BILLAH", which means "I believe in God". If you are not Muslim, I have no suggestion , too bad for U!!

Primitive men made God

Each of my sons have asked the same question before as each one grew into the curiosity of where things come from. My reply to them has always been, "No one made God. He has always been."

I believe this is the most Biblical reply.

If nothing cannot produce something, and yet something exists, then it follows necessarily that something has existed always. The question then becomes this. What is the “something” that has been in existence always?

God is “everlasting” in nature (Isa. 40:28), which is to say, he is “eternal”. (Rom. 16:26; 1 Tim. 1:17). His existence is “from everlasting to everlasting.” Before the material creation was spoken into existence, he always was (Psa. 90:2).

That is a very good question. With a very easy answer.
God always has been and always will be. God was the first one here and no one made Him. He is the beginning and the end.
You can find that all through the bible.

God said that He has always existed. Apostle John gives 3 descriptions of God. He is SPIRIT, LOVE and LIGHT.
