I would start putting Abreva on it immediately! My husband gets them constantly from working out in the weather, and this is what the pharmacist recommended to him!

all of these are great ideas but over the counter products don't work in the time frame that you need. Abreva is a waste of $$. one year, i got one right before Christmas and asked my doctor to give me a prescription for something so I wouldn't have a cold sore in Christmas pics. it knocked it out in a day... literally. however, it may be too late for you. you have to catch it early. did you just start feeling it today? if so, call your doc now and pick the meds up today. they give you the same pill people use for herpes (yeah, sorry... i was shocked, too! but it really works!) If it is already a good size bump, the meds probably won't help now. But even if you think its too late for it to help you now, go ahead and have your doctor call in a prescription so you will have it next time. As soon as you feel the tingle of a cold sore, take the medicine. HTH... and congrats on the marriage proposal!! :)

My all time cold sore medicine is Campho-Phenique. I dab a little on a clean cotton ball & apply it gently to the cold sore, as often as I think necessary. I also know that Abreva, a non prescription cold sore remedy works real well. Another good remedy is Anbesol Cold Sore Therapy, sold over the counter also.

Factors that activate cold sores are:
Infections (ie: colds)
Over exposure to the sun
Fever
Refined sugars
Stress
Fatigue
Hormonal change

at the first sign, use Abreva right away. a little tube is kind of pricey at 10-11 dollars.. but it really does shorten the time you have a cold sore. catch it early enough, and a lot of the time, the medication stops it from developing into a full blown cold sore. the stuff works well.

Go to your Dr. and get a prescription called (Zivorax) for cold sores. When they first appear it can stop them from becoming full fledge and it works very good. Otherwise they can last for several weeks. You might also try going to the pharmacy and asking them what you can buy over the counter. They may be able to suggest something if you can't afford to go to the Dr.
Good Luck.

I read an article that says to do 1 of 2 things 1: when you feel that itch, burn, tingle sensation, rub your finger behind your ear 2-3 time then rub your lips and of course wash your hands after. You can repeat as needed.2:take a gold ring and rub it on the area 2-3 times or as often as needed. dont forget to wash your hands and the ring. GOOD LUCK

You can get free advice from a UK pharmacist, concerning potential treatments. She/He would also advise on symptoms and when to treat.

It is better to not treat inappropriately, even with over the counter medication - plus it will save you money.

Buy some Abreva and put it on the place ASAP. If you catch it early enough you can stop it from appearing.
Goodluck!
