They moved into a big old farm house in 2003 and about a year later they started getting sick, sinusitis, bronchitis, flu, colds, viruses, stomach viruses, strep throat, ear infections, over and over and over. So last night when I talked to her she said her older one (6 yrs old) has sinusitis and the younger one (4 yrs old) was up throwing up all night. both running 103 fevers. now this after I just talked to her 4 days before and they all had strep throat and the week before that thjey were in the ER for stomach viruses, so I asked her if this could be something in her house like a mold or something and she got defensive and said "NO, we dont have mold in OUR house" but dont you think that it a little excessive for kids to be sick THAT much?

Yes it is excessive and mold most certainly could be part of the problem as well the cleaners and laundry products they use. Many chemicals used in regular cleaning products are registered pesticides and very toxic so you may want to consider putting together a basket of all natural cleaning products to take to her as a gift. You could also include some info off the internet about how toxic chemicals can makek you sick. In this bunch of info you could include some info on mold and mold detection. This would be a way to bring up the topic without actually mentioning it. Also if you are close enough to your friend why not ask her if the kids are taking their mulitvitamin every day.

The first thing they need to do is a full toxicity screen of the children to determine if they are recieving any time of poisions or chemicals that could be causing this. It could be the water, mold anything. That would tell them what is causing this. I would also test for HIV and other immune indeficencies. Finally if neither gives results for the cause then you can do an enviromental test. Enviromental test though are extreamly expensive. One simple thing could be just seperate the children to another area and see if the problem happen again. If so then it's not the atmosphere. OH OH, Finally it could be the mother posioning them. There is a mental disorder called Muchasen Syndrome By Proxy. Do some reasearch on it. Essentially a lot of mothers intentionally posion their children to get attention from the doctor.

I have 2 kids also, this is odd that they are that sick all the time. I wonder if she has any animals on this farm? If so how often are the kids around them, and how often are they washing their hands? When I take my kids places like Macdonalds PlayPlace that is a breeding ground for germs I wipe their hands with antibacterial wipes at least 4 time during our visit and then again just as we are leaving. Washing their hands is key to stop illness'
It could be something in the home as well, did she have the house inspected by a house inspector before purchasing? This house could have hidden mould damage they are not aware, it doesn't mean she is a bad housekeeper. I hope she and her family get well and the illness's stop.

It is excessive for kids to be sick that often especially if they didn't start getting sick until after they moved into the farm house. Explain to your friend that mold does not mean you are dirty...anybody can get mold! There can be mold from rain ...there can be mold from moisture behind your toilet...there can be mold from anything!! Most people have mold in their homes...and don't even know it! They sell kits to test for mold...they tell you where you are most likely to have it and where to test. You can also have it professionally tested. I would think that she would want to find out the reason "ALL" her children are excessively sick.

I agree..explain to her having mold in your house..doesn't mean it's her fault..She sounded a little defensive ?? This type of mold is not always visible and it hidden in the walls. She should have it checked out either way. Maybe you can look into it for her..find a company and the cost if any.

You are correct. And I would bet money that she has mold and mildew in that house. You can't even see it, but I'm sure it's there. All homes have it to a point. She needs to get someone out there to do a test. If she is so sure her perfect little house doesn't have mold, then she shouldn't have a problem with having it tested, should she?

Another ignorant parent. She should have the house tested. If she cares for her kids, the cost is worth it and less expensive than all the medical coverage.

I agree, your friend needs to be more responsible and get house checked. she may have taken what you said as an insult that she doesnt keep her house clean or something so maybe you should clarify that with her.

You might take a hard look at the mother in this situation.

Do some research on Munchausen syndrome. It could be that she is psychologically inducing these "illnesses" in her children.
