Let's face it, we can not depend on the older generation for answers. Look how screwed up our society is. Many problems stem back as far as the mid 60's. A bunch of the young people I have talked to and or worked with have some great ideas. Get the old people out of office!!!

You have to build their confidence in the functioning of a responsible and effective Democracy.
Youth are idealistic in outlook. They are Impatient, Adventurous, Impulsive, and though they do have great ideas a close look at them would make you discover that the ideas are mostly the result of a concerned Heart rather than the Rational Mind.
It is not that I am against the youth but just think all of us oldies have passed through the same stage and mostly have held the same thoughts / ideas.
You have to work with them and temper their impulsive and adventurous nature. Train them to be practically rational. Guide them, help them to look at things critically, with a long range view or the functioning of the social order. Teach them that change is always welcome but without creating chaos and confusion in the existing system.
You would feel proud the day they hold the reigns and steer the nation to greater heights in all fields of human activity.

About things being 'screwed up' at present Machiavelli has pointed out that human nature is such that humans always praise the past, condemn the present and look forward to the future.
This is the fact in every society the world over.

First, "get the old people out" is just as much stereotyping as the GOP rhetoric. And if you drop that attitude, you'll find the majority of older people are just as fed up with things as you are.

If you are willing to do that--to treat everyone as an individual--then you have something to offer. Otherwise, you don't.

And if you do want to get young people involved (and I heartily agree) you have to start by seeing things from their perspective. They don't trust either party, they see the corruption in the system--and they can smell BS a mile away. They aren't apathetic--they jsut don't want to have anything to do with a corrupt system.

So what you have to do is give them reasons to support a candidate or a legislative initiative. Real reasons, not sound bytes. And don't expect them to give a blank check loyalty to the Democratic party--because they won't.

If you want to recruit them, you have to remember oe thing--they have no tolerance for hypocrisy.

It is only the young who think they have the answers to everything - which in itself shows their youth. Time and experience are great teachers - don't knock the "old" - put your fresh ideas & excitement out there in the arena but don't believe you are the ONLY one with answers. Society is still here - so it's not completely "screwed" up. Work together - not apart.

Give people real, unbiased information regarding the issues and candidates. If there was a group out there that put together basic report cards on candidates' views, voting records, job history, etc., I would donate time and money to them. People don't participate because they don't know there are things being voted on that they care about.
