It is very easy to say both. However, 95% of the time it is the 'taker' who makes it almost impossible to refuse. The laws are made to suit these bloodsuckers. I feel the ‘taker’ should be severely punished. The ‘giver’ should be punished according to the circumstances.

Off course both but mostly taker, because if some one tried to go against this bad system, the bribe taker harass that poor person like anything and by the time he/she should get their work done, they might get fed-up and ready to give the bribe some or the other way. As even Anti corruption dept. is also involved in such systems now a days.

Both should be punished equally becaise on one hand the bribe taker is taking bribe which is obviously the wrong thing to do and on the other hand the bribe giver is giving bribe and increasing the morale of the bribe taker. This is equally wrong.

Of course, both should be punished. But the bigger criminal is the bribe taker. This is because he has been given a position of public trust and responsiblity of office. He is a public servant, and someone who has taken an oath of office to do justice and treat all equally, to use his powers and discretion impartially and fairly. Without that fairness, the entire system breaks down, including the respect for the system itself.

. The bribe giver is a private citizen seeking his own selfish aims and economic profit. He is a small and insignificant problem. But multipied many times, they all corrupt the entire system.

Hi,

Excellent question. The main culprit here is the giver. When some one asks for bribe you and me have all the rights to say "NO". We must be patient enough to get the work done in a appropriate way.

If you don't encourage beggars you will not see beggars in the streets. It is some what similar.

When you want some work to be done by any means and immediately, you approach some one and get the work done.
And the person who is in charge of doing the work ( the totally
un-patriotic man/woman) expects a bribe to do the work as you desire( quickly). Well let us be well organised in every thing and let us first of all know our basic rights. If the subordinate expects bribe approach his/her/ superior. Even if the superior is also indirectly invloved in getting bribe, write in the news paper and talk to media.

The best way I have found is to become a member of Consumers Association / Consumer Voice. When you show
the ID to the man/woman who asks for bribe will do your work
without asking for anything.

I have never given bribe nor taken bribe till date and I am able to live peacefully in this world.

Try this simple method.

In my opinion both the bribe giver and taker must be punished.

Shyon-while there are good arguments for both being punished, I 'd say the taker because he/she is probably a public official who is held to higher standards. There would also be a code of ethics for government employees that mandates more severe punishment for government officials or employees. They were both wrong, but I think it's worse to accept than to offer if the person taking the bribe was given public trust through an election. Higher moral standards SHOULD be applied to government officals.

Giver ofcourse. If that is made strict the amount of bribe givers will reduce.people give bribe fearing that their work wont be done if they wont give it. If the government is able to bring the fear of getting punishment above the former fear, no one will be eady to give bribe. If there is no givers no one can take.

Giver. It is always up to him to pay the bribe or get the work done through honest means.Due to lack of will many choose to bribe. If bribe givers can be corrected then corruption can be abolished.

Both should be punished equally because, when one proposes for the bribe the other is just proceeding in that way for his personal gains. But today one should realize that people who sow the seeds of honest, confidence and patience enjoy a delicious fruity life without any sort of fear.
