What you're describing sounds like molluscum contagiosum rather than viral warts. Viral warts are the ones that you get on hands and feet (where they are called veruccas) and are due to a different virus from m contagiosum. MC are smaller than 'common' warts and are identified by having a small umbilification (a tiny depression - like a belly button - hence the technical term) in the middle - you may need to look through a magnifying glass to see this. They are commoner in children than adults, as a rough guide can last 6 - 12m but always go on their own, and are completely harmless. They do sometimes get inflamed and itchy but this is usually just before they disappear. It is possible to speed up resolution by traumatising them (traditionally by using a sharp orange stick to just pierce the surface) but its not very nice to do especially if there's a lot of them and on a 5 yr old.

Typical neglegent behaviour on the doctor's side. When I had warts on my neck and face I was given proper medication, including a liquid that dyed my skin bright red, I couldn't go to school I was so ugly. Anyway, my doctor didn't think it would be a good idea to go to school and spread my warts. Within 10 days my warts vanished (yes, that's time but not a long time). I suggest you get yourself a better doctor because he/she is obviously a lazy git.

The doctor is right! They will go away eventually, though its difficult to say when. Do not worry . I had some on my neck and they dissappered when I was 22. so do not worry, they are alro harmless.

On the othe hand, I know a gentleman who developed a wrat in his 50s, and made efforts to remove it! He peralazed from his west downword. All attempts to cure him failled!

So, in your son's case, I would say the doctor knows best. But if in doubt, you can always have a second opinion from another doctor.

All the best!

the warts i had as a child lasted from the age of 4 to 12. some can last longer but it is unusual. There are wart treatment available from most chemists and some are very good so if you are worried you could try them.
