My new years resolution is to lose the 20lbs that I put on during the last year. I have not exercised in a long time and someone told me that taking muscle milk before I excercise (I exercise about 3 times per week) would help me shed some pounds, but everything that I've read so far is about how the product builds muscle & bulk. I could use some muscle, but right now my main concern is shedding the fat. I just want to know if it is something that I should be taking.

muscle milk is a great product. it does not cause an increase in muscle unless you have a caloric excess and are utilizing a training routine that is designed to build muscle. but then again "any" food item can do that.

I would use it for post workout supplementation vs pre workout.

Muscle Milk is fantastic. It has a lot of healthy (unsaturated fats), great taste, and an extremely high quality and long lasting protien. Every day for breakfast I have chocolate muscle milk made with skim milk, and a bowl of oatmeal with some fruit in it, and that is the perfect breakfast. Keeps you full for a pretty long time without a lot of fat or sugar.

Muscle Milk is a milkshake product for muscle building, but if your plan is to lose the flabby weight before working towards building it back up in muscle form then you shouldn't drink it. It Does give some energy towards the workout and thus it is high in carbs. I'd say do more aerobics type excersizes like jogging for your 3 times a week schedule and once you've lost your desired amount of weight, start using muscle milk before each workout and change the workout to using weights to build it back up in muscle. (occasionally I will drink it before AND at then end of the workout day right before bed to keep muscle sustainment throughout sleep)

Muscle Milk also helps burn fat, or so it says. I use it and I think it works. I use it mostly to gain muscle mass; although, I noticed that it did help me lose some fat. I think it's up to you. It does both, but it may not be exactly what you're looking for.
