a black cat is only unlucky if it crosses your path

2007-01-31 02:46:13 · answer #1 · answered by summer nights 2 · 0 1

Both and neither. The Unlucky superstition is an old fashioned idea that a black cat may be a witch's 'familiar' and therefore considered evil. (remember, they used to burn those poor ladies) But with changing times and 'witches' making way for 'wiccans' some consider them to be lucky because they may be a wiccan's familiar. Confused? You should be. It's all in what you believe really. Of course, in reality, black cats are simply black cats.

Well, I think black cats are lucky. I love cats anyway, so I may be a little bias. However, there were cultures in the world where black cats, and perhaps cats of all colors were considered lucky, even sacred. In ancient Egypt, cats were considered to be gods, and were treated as such. The penalty for harming a cat was death. In some areas of Britain and Ireland, sailors' wives often kept black cats as good luck to both themselves and their husbands.

Legend has it that the are unlucky. But I think it depends on the cat, because I have met some pretty nice black cats, but I have also met some that I would consider "unlucky."

Neither. There is no scientific evidence that any invisible forces actually determine our luck. A black cat is just a black cat. Just like a white cat or a brown cat, only black.

It is a common belief that black cats bring bad luck to people. They are not lucky or unlucky themselves - it's just how they affect the people around them....

Superstition aside-

What country are you from? Half the world thinks black is unlucky, the other half thinks white is unlucky. Oddly, teh half that finds white to be unlucky tend to think teh black cat is lucky.

You both win, you both lose. Take your pick.

Cats especially black cats unfortunately have always gotten a bad rep due to their association with accused witches. Some cats were thought to be the devil himself.
Black cats like Friday the 13th are superstition.

Black or white or any other color - they are just cats. Lucky or unlucky has to do nothing with cats or any other animal.

I love my black cat! I figured it would cancel any bad luck to actually own one LOL since he crosses my path every day. That is just a superstition, its just like a orange or white cat. It doesnt matter the color they are great!
