they call it "the kissing disease" because you usually get it from another person. you can also get it from drinking from someone, etc. I had Mono in the 10th grade. I went to the emergency room because my throat hurt so bad, and was swollen and i couldn't really eat anything. I thought it was a bad case of Strep Throat, but it wasn't it was..Mono. I had to be out of school for 7 weeks, and i slept 22-23 hours a day. I was so tired i couldn't stay awake, i would try to watch a movie or something and i'd fall asleep. it was a HORRIBLE 7 weeks, i had to have a homebound Teacher come by and do my lessons. It was just horrible. Also once you get mono, you'll always have it. just like now, (i'm 21) if i were to be tested for mono it would be positive, because i had it once, and it's always in ur system. For a couple of years after i had mono, any time i got sick i would get sooo tired. it still happens every now and again. Well i hope this helps!

You get mono from an infected person's saliva or other body fluid. That's why it's called the "kissing" sickness. You could get it off a drinking fountain, table at a restaurant, or anywhere.

When you get it, you might feel like you have a terrible cold. You can't get over it unless you go to the Dr. and get a antibiotic. I've had it twice, and once I thought it was strep throat because my throat hurt SO BAD! I could talk but couldn't eat. I was taking tylenol just to eat lunch. And it makes you very tired, too.

If you have it, go to the Dr. right away and he will give you antibiotic. If you're working a job, get a written excuse from the Dr. You will need to go home and sleep for two days at least. It is a yukky disease, but take your antibiotic and you'll be fine.

Mono is also known as the kissing disease.. it is spread by contact: touching people, kissing, water fountains, etc... You are extremly tired & want to sleep all the time.... I had mono while in high school.. dr gave me a shot every week and also put me on vitamin B12 pills. I had to have my blood tested once every 2 weeks... there is no medication to cure or help mono. You have to let it run its course. Lots of rest & vitamins will help.

Infectious mononucleosis is caused by Epstein-Barr virus (EBV, human herpesvirus type 4), characterized by fatigue, fever, pharyngitis, and lymphadenopathy. Fatigue may persist weeks or months. Severe complications, including splenic rupture and neurologic syndromes, occasionally occur. Diagnosis is clinical or with heterophil antibody testing. Treatment is supportive.

Infectious mononucleosis. Its a disease that usually affects teenagers. It is transmitted by intimate contact (e.g. kissing, hence the name "kissing disease"). It is a disease caused by a virus called Ebstein virus (EBV).

This disease is characterized by very painful sore throat, slight fever, and lymphadenopathy (i.e. enlarged lymph nodes in the body). This disease goes by itself in most of the time.

The bad side of it .... is that it keeps hidden in your body. It only comes back if that someone gets weak immunity (like AIDS). Then this disease becomes nasty.

So be careful

Very tired sore throat and spleen must be checked - my grandaughter had it last spring and it took 6 weeks and then some for her to recover.

all I know is it makes you really sick. my little brother had it when he was 4, ended up in the hospital, we thought he wasn't going to make it. he was very very sick, and for a while too. I know they call it a kissing disease, but we do not know to this day where he contracted it from. nobody else got it but him. his immunity must have down that's all I can think.
