The guy I spoke to made it out to sound that it wasn't just me that was having the problem. There isn't any reason that I can think of that would delay it. I filed the same way this year as last, my dependants and address is the same from last year......ha I just want my refund!!

Wes: Did they give you a date of when you can expect it since it's going to be delayed? All they told me was 2 more weeks and they didn't have a date to give me.

Shay: I'll let you know anything when and if I ever find anything out. What excuses has the IRS gave you for the refund not being deposited yet?

Liz, I am having the same problem. The IRS website showed that my refund would be direct deposited on 01/26, but it never showed up in my account. Now the website shows that there is a delay and gave me a reference # as well. I have called over 7 times and have gotten 7 different answers. I don't know what to believe. One rep told me that it is on hold. I have filed the same way with the same dependents for the past 3 years. I will give an update if I ever get to the bottom of this.

Congress extended some deductions that were expiring and the extension was approved after the IRS had finalized the forms for 2006. The IRS has stated that returns filed with any of these deductions will not be processed until 2/7/07 so they can make the necessary adjustments to their computer system.

These deductions include - the sales tax deduction, the tuition deduction, and the deduction for teachers. If you have taken any of these deductions on your return then your refund is delayed. If you did not take any of these deductions then there is probably some other computer glitch that is being worked out.

Yes I am due a refund from NJ Tax Division. It was in excess of $7,000 so they requested that I send them my W2s and 1099s despite the fact that my accountant filed my taxes online back in March. I sent the documents to them via certified mail and it's been a month and when I contacted them they say it's not when they receive the documents but when their office "processes' them. Huh? If I owed taxes, I'd better pay up by April 15 but they can take their sweet time? Now they want me to send them again to another address. I think I am going to go to the media about this story. It's abuse of the taxpayer and shouldn't be tolerated.

The IRS has a time in their computer system that is called the dead cycle, Your return can be processed but is not able to be posted to your account. The dead cycle is due to computer updates. This is a yearly event. Unfortunately this will delay your refund.

There may be something that the IRS is looking at regarding your return. If you had any changes from last year; dependents, filing status etc. Or, if you owed any money to a prior tax prep firm for "pre-file loans", or preparation fees, it can delay it. If you picked up or dropped dependents it can cause a "further look" without being called a "problem" yet.

good luck & blessings
