I own Saints and Pekes, they get along fine as long as the Saints remember the female Peke is in charge. Funny they are afraid of her.

I believe one of the best dogs with kids is the boxer. I have 3 boxers currantly and will never get another breed of dog. I have a four year old little girl that can do anything with these dogs. I aslo everyonce and a while put my hands in there dog bowls to see if they will do anything wrong and they dont. They are wonderful and I swear by them.

English Mastiffs - are huge, fierce looking dogs, but in reality are pushovers. They get along with other dogs, no matter the size. Kids love them. And they will protect when necessary.

Of course it all comes back to the training of the dogs. Any dog can be trained to be like this.

Almost any large breed dog will be fine if you bring it home as a puppy...with the exception of sighthounds, like greyhounds, because they will eat the family cat! But if you are adopting an already grown large breed dog, then that will narrow it down because small children are annoying to any adult dog!

My English Bulldogs play very well with my friends' little dogs and they love kids. Usually the only thing that you need to watch out for is when they get really really excited to see kids then they have a tendence to jump on them and knock them down.

Labrador Retrievers...
They aren't extremely big, but they are a pretty average size dog, but they have a lot of love to give and they are usually always GREAT with other dogs and every lab I have ever herd of always loves kids. :D

Golden Retrievers. I have one and he's great with the kids and we have a smaller dog, Simon. Those two are like peas in a pod!

Hounds are good family pets. They don't require much training and it would take a lot of abuse to make one aggresive. I've heard that retired/rescued greyhounds are terrific as they have already been trained and are very mild mannered
