I guess it is everyones' right to rate! (Thank Goodness)
Regarding taxes, it is imperative that people get good advice. I am a member of NATP, and in good standing with the IRS and have been doing taxes for over 20 years.
It is alarming that there is soooo much bad tax advice out there and people putting down good tax advice.????

who knows why they rate like they do. I work for the IRS and had someone report one of my answers as abuse. And it had been selected best answer. so go figure. I haven't bothered rating, people are going to choose what they want anyway. One answerer stated child support was deductible and it was choosen best answer.

I agree that the number of wrong answers given in the tax section is huge - and scary. There are several regular responders who know tax law and give good answers pretty much all the time. But many questions, especially those dealing with dependents or with head of household status, get more wrong answers than right.

And yes, I've noticed the number of thumbs down on correct answers. It seems to have gotten huge just in the last week or so. No idea why.

Probably because the people giving the bad rating on correct answers believe the answer is incorrect. These are the individuals giving out all the bad tax advice.

It may be everyone's right to rate, but I agree w/ you: the preponderance of bad tax advice in this forum is staggering, and needs to be pointed out.

Maybe, even if it's the correct answer, they don't like what they're reading. Maybe they need an IRS audit to straighten them out.

Atleast a lot of the people giving wrong answers are honestly mistaken. What I really do not get are the people saying, its illegal but do it anyway you are unlikely to get caught.
