I have a female Boston Terrier and she is in her second heat. I would like to mate her just once. My neighbor has a boy Boston, 10 months and I take my female over but the male Boston doesn't seem to have a clue. Any tips?

yes you shouldn't breed your female until she's at least 2. you should have her health and temperament screened and the male should also. both dogs should have an outstanding pedigree and conform to breed standard and be a great representation of the standard. you should have funds set aside for prenatal care, and a possible c-section should the need arise. be prepared for puppies with replacement formula, and know when to take them to the vet for vaccines and deworming. the male is not really sexually mature yet, or the female is not in the right part of her heat. take this time to decide if you really want to risk the health problems associated with breeding your dog. learn what the gestation period is, and when to call the vet should problem arise. if you must breed your dog at least know all that it involves. talk with the breeder you got your female from. if you're doing it right you might make a $1 from the puppies.
