I will be out of town on superbowl weekend and my husband has planned to have "the guys" over to watch the game. Does anyone have any good recipes that I can make for him to pop into the oven while I'm gone? I was thinking about putting chicken wings in the crock pot and having him take it out of the fridge and turn it on, but I'd like to leave him with something more creative and filling. Of course, he could order a pizza, but we're trying to save money. I am leaving Friday morning, so anything I make must be able to hold in the fridge or freezer Friday, Saturday and part of Sunday. Any ideas?

A big crock pot of Chili is always a hit.
Baked pasta and meat

Calzones - you can make them today and tomorrow, freeze them, and have him pull them out of the freezer on Sat - defrost in the fridge, and on Sunday bake them off. OR you can pre bake them, and freeze them - just pop them into the microwave to heat them up.

If you don't want to get that involved, make a Pepperoni and Sausage bread. I just get a box of bread dough mix, and prepare as directed. Roll it out, place the Pepperoni and cooked Sausage on, sprinkle with Mozz, and roll up - Jelly Roll style. Let it rise, and bake till brown on top. Let cool completely before cutting - heat up in the microwave to get the cheese warm and gooey again. Serve with Pizza sauce on the side. You can probably add veggies, but I've never done it - I'd precook the veggies - to make sure they've given off all their liquid - other wise the bread will be soggy. Cheap and easy "Pizza"

Chips, Dips, Veggies - always a big hit...

I hope your husband will be cleaning up the house after a "Guys Night". :)

A cheeseball would be a big hit, I shape mine in the shape of a football and use green onion strips for the laces. It will definately hold, and only get better that long! You could also stuff potatoe skins with cheese and bacon and line them on a cookie sheet and he could pop those under the broiler to go with the wings. Vegies and dip can be made ahead as well, add some sweets and chips and you're done! If you need the cheeseball recipe, comment back and I'll send it tomorrow.

You could make some bean dip, and salsa. Ooh, and some of that cheesey velveeta dip, and give them some chips. Or make the stuff for tacos or nachos, that's pretty simple to heat up and add chips to. The chicken wings sound like a winner too though, guys LOVE those and they are so superbowl-y. Enjoy your trip.

Ps. Lasagne would work well too.

There are some good frozen pizzas out there that would be a lot cheaper than ordering- why not pick up a couple of those? I hope he knows how to use the oven...my husband doesn't.

You could make a layered taco dip with refried beans (and/or ground beef), shredded lettuce, sour cream, guacamole, cheese dip, salsa, sliced olives, and some shredded cheese on top. Serve with tortilla chips.

And you think hotwings are cheap? Not where I live...I can order many more pizzas than I can cook chickenwings.

Anyway....that is a great idea, and sub sandwiches are easy, hotdogs, sausage balls, chips with hot dip, etc...footballers are not that picky...smiling.
