Money is not the root of all evil. The LOVE of money is the root of all evil. There is a difference. If you are wealthy, and you utilize that money to do good works for the world, that is not evil. But, if you slave day in and day out for more money, if you believe that money buys happiness, and you use the money soley for personal sense gratification, that is evil. With money comes responsibility, but many people only want the money. Rich people get respect and attention because wealth is attractive. But, if that wealth is exploited, it loses respectability quickly. Paris Hilton is one example. The Kennedy dynasty is another. An example of how money can be properly utilized is the Carnegie legacy. Mr. Carnegie was very rich, but at the end of his life, he gave all of his money away to various worthy causes.

In a Christian religion, yes being rich is the root of to evil however not all evil. It is stated that a rich person can not go to heaven. This basically means that if you are greedy, then you will not go to heaven. So, if you keep two pennies for yourself and do not share half - then you are not going to heaven because you are greedy.
But, do they get all the respect? Yes, they may have attention however how much of it is good? Look at some of the most "popular" actresses on the blogs today, they are getting ridiculed for what they are doing. Granted, there are some good celebrities that are always in the good light, such as Oprah but she is doing something with her money - she doesn't just give it to herself. She is making good that isn't evil. The ones that don't do this good, how many people really respect them? People just act nice to most rich people because they are greedy themselves. Once that same person loses his/her money, then the "respect and attention" will be lost also.

What kind of respect and attention?
I see poor people all over the place who are respected for their contributions to society.
Rich people often are respected because people want something from them. And attention - for the same reason. There are a few who do good thing, or are really smart (but thats probably why they became rich).
