I don't know why they do. I don't. Maybe they want to believe that there is something safe and good that is protecting them. Dreamers I guess.

There is no statistical evidence that police officers are as corrupt as criminals. In fact, if even one officer is not corrupt, and you assume (based on their conviction) that all criminals are corrupt, then your question is invalid.

Most police officers are not corrupt. They have a real interest in helping people, and upholding the laws of the town/city/state/country they live in.

The reason people respect a police officer is that we have to believe that the uniform and the badge stand for something. That the person wearing them is going to do the right thing based on the laws of the land. That they represent safety and security.

Besides, showing disrespect to the people that are supposed to be there to help you is not a good way to get them to help you.

Lumping all police into that category is wrong. Not all police are corrupt, but some are. I have zero respect for officers that are corrupt; they should be shot just like the scum that they help.

What makes you think that all police are corrupt?
Too much TV?
Most police officers are good, decent, and hardworking people; just like anyone else. They are actually held to a higher standard of behavior than other professions because of the authority that they carry. If you want to see how hard their job is, take a ride along for one night and see what they deal with. I did, and it totally changed my opinion.

because people need to believe there is justice in an unjust world. they tell themselves over and over like a mantra. Police are paid thugs for the corprate pirates. do some research and find out what section of government they fall under in the USA. it might suprise you.

I would love for people to love the police. But stupid laws had given them too much power and it gets abused. There are good cops though. Somewhere.

I don't know of anyone who respects the police. They are just people like the rest of us. The same percentages apply to them as they do to civilians. Respect is not something you're born with. You have to earn it.
