be honest with him and tell him you want to split up.. move on with your life but also be ready to accept that your child has a right to spend time with its father too and be prepared to do this.
i have just been in the same situation and yes it was hard, but life moves on.. my son spends 2 out of 3 weekends with his father and this works well for both of us as we both have a social life without having to worry about sitters, we both have our time with our son and y son is as happy as he has ever been.. kids adapt very quickly to these things

First thing you need to do is to have a plan, make sure that you know where your going and what your doing and that your able to take care of things financially because most guys don't just volentarily give you money for child support and the courts take awhile to kick in. after you have a plan then you just nicely explain to him that it's over and tell him why...the only exception to this is if he's violent in which case you should run far and run fast, no man should ever be violent with a woman

Well since you have a child with the man he is going to be around all the time to see his child and what not. You can't get away from that but if you want to end your relationship just tell him. There is no since in making yourself and him unhappy just for the child.

It is not uncommon. Make sure you really know that you want to do this and let him know. Be prepared, he may flip out and want to take the kid through a custody battle or he may leave and never see the baby again. It is very important that children have a father figure. No one says you can find anyone better but make sure you are prepared for whatever happens. Good Luck.

Before you do or say ANYTHING to him, go and see a lawyer and inquire about your rights as to custody for your child. Laws differ in each area.
When you break up with him he is going to be hurt and then he's going to be angry and he's going to want to hurt you in return. It's human nature. Make sure you have the question of custody and visitation looked after before you even open your mouth about breaking up. Because chances are he knows that what will hurt you most is your child and having your child removed from you.
Also make sure that your actions as a parent are IMPECCABLE. No stupid Britney-like stunts of going out and partying everynight til the wee hours leaving your kids with others.
Act with caution is my advice to you. And try to do it gently. And remember, while you can dump him, you CANNOT dump him out of his child's life. Be reasonable with visitation arrangements and don't use the child as leverage, even if he tries to. Don't sink to that level.

Blot him with a wet towel. That should dampen him up quite easily.
