Definitely call the shop and talk to them! 10 years ago, I was in 2 weddings 3 weeks apart and got measured 6 months apart. Measured for a 10 one wedding and a 12 the other. Needless to say, the 10 was a bit snug I was able to have it taken out a little bit, but would have been much easier to have gone biggered and had it taken in. I'm surprised that since you were between the two sizes they didn't go bigger so you (and your SIL) could have them taken in.

Depending on the kind of bridal shop you go to they may or may not stock your size. Keep in mind that wedding gowns normally run about two sizes to small, so you will need to try on about a 20 or 22. Alot depends on your bust size and span of your back. David's Bridal is a great place to shop for plus sized wedding gowns. They have a women's line wich basically fits like a half size would, and they give a little more in the bust and back which is where you want it to. David's stocks wedding gowns up to a size 26w and if they dont have the dress you want in the size you need it, they can order it....just give the order about 2-6 weeks, depending on the style of the dress. David's is an off the rack kind of store so if you find the one you love in the size and color, you can take it home that day. Good luck and hope this helps. Just remeber.....dont eat a big lunch before you try on wedding gowns, and sodas hold water weight.

Call the shop, but take a deep breath. Each dress is a little different so the one you bought may be a little different on their size chart. Don't panic, just call an explain that you looked at the size chart. Same designer and I fit into a 14-18 depending on how the bust was cut- sometimes size charts are not perfect.

It's a scam to make you pay for the alterations. I am the MOH in an upcoming wedding with 8 bridesmaids. All of us got measured and every single dress set does not fit. What is the point in taking the measurements if they are going to order the wrong size anyway? It is a complete scam so they can make money on your alterations. If you are going to have to have alterations done anyway, you might prefer to go smaller as opposed to having to go bigger!

You should always order the size to fit your biggest measurement, then take in the rest.
I would call - she may have had a reason, knowing how the dress is cut, how easy it is to let it out/ take it in etc.
But then again, it's your money and your dress, and you have every right to say you are more comfortable ordering up and having it taken in.
And she may have made an error in judgement.
I would try and speak to someone else to get a "second" opinion.
Good Luck

Bridal shops seem to make a lot of mistakes with measurments. The same thing happened to a good friend of mine and she had to wear a corset through the entire wedding (not a comfy feeling at all). Call back and ask someone if they are sure about what they ordered.

I agree with Liliian. You need to march right back into the shop and talk with the manager. If they had ordered the bigger size they would be able to alter it by taking it in. There'snot enough hem on the sides to let it out that much. Refund or not, THEY are responsible for ordering that dress and not you.

You need to talk to the lady about the dresses. It is much better for her to order a bigger size and have it taken in than for the dress to come out too small. Definitely talk to her and tell what you want.
Good Luck!!

There ARE refunds and exchanges if the bridal shop goofed up. Go back to the bridal shop and show them that the measurements of the dress do not match your measurements. Ask them what they plan to do if the dress comes in too small.
The only catch is if you signed an agreement stating that you discussed the sizes with the salesperson and you agreed with ordering a 12. You're stuck then.
They can add extra fabric. Especially if you need a good amount of material taken off of the bottom of the dress.

I would call! If you were between sizes the lady should have ordered the larger size so that it could be taken up. Its easier to take up a dress than to let it out.
