What is the one thing you have done in front of your child that you totally feel bad/embarressed about? When my son was 4, he was learning sign language just for the fun of it. I bought him videotapes as well as children's books on the subject. he was quite proficient and devoted at it. I was proud. Fast forward about 6 months later, we are at a traffic stop, the lady behind me is blowing and tailgating me which ticks me off, my child is in the back in his car seat. He catches me giving the finger to this driver in my rear view mirror and asks me what sign is that mommy? I could literally see him in my mind thumbing through a dictionary of sign language and I felt so bad that my child caught me behaving badly. So what's your story?

We all have those moments--some more than others. When my oldest son was a preschooler, we got broadsided by a man who ran a red light. Thankfully, only with minor damage because I saw it coming and manged to turn just enough that he didn't hit where my son was sitting on the passanger side.

Unfortunately, under extreme duress, I have a tendency to exclaim "SH*T".

For several months after the accident, every time I touched the brakes on my car, my son would yell "SH*T" and then go into gails of laughter. A very embarassing little habit, especially when other people rode with us anywhere!

LOL, been there done that. (Scary ain't it!) Just relax and take a deep breath. Be honest with your kid. You don't need to tell him what you meant, but you do need to tell him you lost your cool. (Be glad you didn't go into old Italian...LOL!) Everyone at some time behaves in a way that isn't what you want to show your child but they will learn even the "bad" things. Trust me, he'll see it soon enough. Getting mad isn't a sin, what you do with the anger, that's what causes problems.

But I'd be willing to bet, you've watched yourself since! And that takes a good parent!
Too often parents don't seem to care that their children pick up on their bad behavior. And then use it themselves! When the parents use foul language constantly, and then can't understand where 'johnny' picked it up from, those are the ones who don't have a clue!
Kids learn by example!

I would have to say that my cussing can get out of hand sometimes. I've been working on not saying these words in front of my 3 yr old but sometimes it slips.

One day I spilled juice on the floor and said "God d*&^ it" in front of my 3 yr old. Well, a few days later he was having problems getting his pants on and repeated what I said. I told him not to say it and that mommy was wrong for saying it too.

We forget that our children are so smart and curious that they copy what they see and hear....Although we are the grown ups, we can learn from our children too...they are the reflections to our behavior!

I knew that, despite being human, I was teaching my son well when one day a lttle voice in the back seat of the car reminded me, "We don't call people that, Mommy. Say he's a bad driver instead"!

this is bad, my husband and i were making love under the cover while our children where asleep in there rooms. we did not notice my three year old walk in. he went to the bathroom in our room.( he likes to use it at night because the other bathroom is downstairs.) well we did not notice until we heard the toilet flush that he was in there with us. my husband freaked out and started tickling me and blowing rasberries on my stomach. my three year old thought that we were playing and told us it was bed time and went back to bed. it was so bad but im glad he did not understand or see what was really going on. from now on we lock the door. lol
