If she has a heavy worm burden it may take a little while.
Worm her every two weeks with good worming paste/tablets(We use Felex paste on the little kittens under 1 kg - 2lb) until she is about 3 months of age.

To kill the fleas use Advantage. Flea powder doesnt work very well and if kitten breathes it in or get some in her eyes it is very uncomfortable for her. The Advantage gets rid of the fleas within 24 hours and gives a month's protection.

Until the fleas and worms are rid of she wont put on any weight. Are you giving her a few little meals during the day, using good quality kitten food?
When I have underweight kittens I give them fresh roo meat that I have heated in the microwave for about 30 seconds in the evening. This warms it up and the smell is stronger and is more appealing to the kittens. They also have good quality kitten dry food on offer all the time and of course water.

Good luck with her and dont forget to scoop out the litter tray at least once a day.

If you are seeing small white worms in the stool, then those are tapeworms. The vet might have discovered other worms on his test that have much more serious health risks and gave medicine for those. Tapeworms require a different medicine than other worms. They often don't show up on a test, but seeing the worms in the stool is the evidence that they are there. Ask the vet for a tapeworm pill. If they are long, coiled worms, they are being passed because of the medicine the vet gave when you had her in. Tapeworms are usually transmitted thru the fleas... and since she was covered with fleas, I'm not surprised that she has a tapeworm.

Are the pills something the vet gave you? If so give it about a week. I am not so sure about the flea powder they usually don't work that well. If thats what the vet recommended then do it, but I would give it about a week and if no improvement then see the vet again.

I think I would call a different vet and tell them over the phone what the first has done and see what they say. I am not so sure I agree with the flea powder. It's not so good for them to breath the dust from the powder.

Good Luck

Hi there, sometimes it can take 2 or 3 rounds of wormer to finally get rid of the active worms. but remember, tape worm eggs can insist into the cats muscles if left untreated too long, and can re-emerge if kitty is under a lot of stress.
Please also get frontline rather than flea powder: but never mix!
Please read the below paste from an earlier post of mine:
Frontline, Frontline, Frontline.
Please do not use Hartz flea collars, they can kill your pet.
visit www.hartzvictims.org
and this happened to me too. They nearly killed my cat Tommis.
A thousand dollars later, and a very traumatized cat ( and Mommy)...... now I tell everyone and only use FRONTLINE!
Flea Collars( especially Hartz) work by slowly seeping into the bloodstream, and poisoning the cat in such small increments, it theoretically should not hurt the cat, but poison bugs when they bite and kill them. Yeah right. My cat's airway closed within 2 hours of putting that collar on him. Frontline, however, works BETTER and only coats the fur and lays in the first layer of skin for the cat, and poisons the bugs on contact. The risks with Frontline (or similar product depending on your country) as opposed to Hartz flea collars and such is like 100000 to 1.
Do visit www.hartzvictims.org to see photos of the poor kitties harmed by big corporate Hartz Mountain. ( a big PS- note that when using certain applied flea products, check with your vet before using ANY flea bombs in the home.. they may be incompatible!)
Good luck!

it could take a while. If she has tapeworms, they come from her ingesting fleas which are the cause of tapeworms. You have to be sure to clear her of the fleas, and be sure to treat all the areas of your house as well. Keep treating her with the flea powder and giving her the deworming pill.

You can bring a stool sample back to the doctor in a few weeks to see if it's clear of parasites. If not, you'll have to continue treating her until the test comes back negative. But the flea treating and the worm treating go hand in hand.

The whole problem is that you may not be treating the correct parasite. Most deworming meds work on only one or two types, and most will not work on tapeworm. If you're continually treating for roundworms, any tapeworm, hook worm, whipworm is not going to be even inconvenienced. Your best bet is to take a stool sample in to ANY vet clinic and have them identify what parasite your cat has. They have the correct meds for taking care of them. We just treated for round worm--it was two doses, the second done 2 weeks after the first, and it cost $12 total. I've treated recently for tapeworm, those meds ran $8.
