It's my understanding that it is actually BETTER for them to live outside, so they can get "climated" and handle their jobs better. I've had this conversation with my husband many many times, and he insists that the dog must live outside, and that all the in and out heat/cold will only make the dog sick and unable to bear the weather in the future. I wanted him in the house by the fire! Additionally, you need to feed him more and higher concentrated food in cold weather, it helps his body produce heat. and yes, good house, escape from wind, and de-icer for the water bowl.

If you live in a mild to moderate climate, then this idea is fine. If you live in a bitter cold climate, then just make sure your shelter is adequate. That means it must be elevated off the ground to keep the floor warm and dry. (Even up on pallets or railroad ties will do). The walls should be insulated, and most importantly, there needs to be a door, or a flap, or a tunnel space to get into the bed area. Wind is the enemy. Your dog needs to be able to get out of the wind when it's cold outside. Then some soft, DRY bedding inside, and your hunter should rest easy. And so will you.

Answer: inside except for working dogs. Just my opinion...if your dog is a pet, it should 'live' inside. Does that mean it is inside most of the time? Not necessarily (some dogs DO prefer outdoors, by far). But they should sleep inside and be trained as indoor dogs, especially if you live anywhere other than the country (urban, suburbia, etc). Sounds like you are trying to get support to justify your dog 'living' outside. I understand, some dogs may do just fine outside. But I have seen far too many animals tied up all day long, suffering in extreme weather conditions, unprotected, and all but ignored because they are outdoors when everyone else is indoors, and/or put outdoors because people are too lazy to train them. I'm not saying you fall into any of these categories, just reporting what I have experienced.

Yes, providing that you have a good dog house for them. Make sure it's elevated off of the ground (so the bottom doesn't freeze) Give them extra food, and water that isn't frozen. Leave news paper inside to help insulate (from my understanding, blankets aren't the best idea because they can become rather gross outside...newspaper can be thrown away easily) They don't recommend pets be outside in less then 32 degrees weather, but as long as you give them shelter and plenty of food..I think you'll be okay

No dog should ever have to live its life away from its pack (you). It ruins their personality. But if they must live outside, then make sure the bedding in their dog house is clean and dry daily and that there is a flap on the door to keep the wind out...and give them love and attention everyday!

Well, if you mean a dog house is well insulated, then they wouldnt be living outside. But yes that would be fine. I would not recommend letting them sleep outside without any protection from the wind or anything, then they may freeze to death.

I would think so-they wouldn't be particularly happy inside. If you have a whole pack of them, I would think they would keep each other warm and they would prefer to be with themselves. If you have two or three-same applies. If you have just one-as long as he/she/it is well sheltered & provided for (and judging from your other post on the dogs outdoors thing, they are) then heck yes.

I think it is a breed/dog specific issue. You know your animals, you know their needs.

as long as they are protected from the weather, you know it's not too cold out there for them. also they need fresh water, that's not frozen and food. these dogs also require at least two long strenous walks a day to keep them up to form. but yes.

Yes. My ex-husband had a Walker and kept her outside and she was fine. On extremely cold, freezing days (like 0 below), he would take her to his Mom's and put her in the barn. When he wasn't home, I would let her in on the back porch.
