You're over thinking it. Try a simple daily task (eg - how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich; how to ask a person out on a date). Here's my best suggestion: "How to come up with a speech topic" that way you can include how to use Yahoo Answers to help you out.

What do you like to do? Cook? Scouting? Sports? Do you know how to do laundry? Or how to take care of a dog? How about babysitting...or how to manage a paper route? How to get a job...or how to edit a home movie on the computer. Do you have a collection of anything? How did you get started? Do you dance or sing? How did you get started? What did you learn first? What was your biggest mistake and greatest moment? Speech is cool...it was my favorite class when I was in high school....I took every speech class my school offered...have fun with it and don't over think it. Remember to practice so you don't go too fast when your giving your speech. Don't forget eye contact...it is a great tool. If you use index cards make sure you number them. I preferred sheets of paper personally, although you can get lost on them if you aren't careful. Using different colored hi-lighters for each point will help there too. Good luck.

Do a speech on how to make 7-layer dip. Bring all the items ready to layer (pre-measured and pre-mixed if required) and make the the dip--then bring a bag of chips and share with the class! While you are layering you can also talk about the history of the ingredients or something. Or maybe do some quick research on the origins of Mexican food or something.

Here's a recipe:
1 sm. can refried beans
1 can Fritos bean dip
1 container Dean's guacamole dip
1 c. sour cream
1/2 c. mayonnaise
1 pkg. taco seasoning
shredded Jack and cheddar cheese
1 can sliced black olives
3 sm. chopped tomatoes
2 bunches chopped green onion

Mix refried beans and Fritos bean dip; spread in bottom of small rectangular baking dish. Next, spread guacamole dip. Mix sour cream, mayonnaise, and taco seasoning; spread. Sprinkle cheese or cheeses to cover the third layer. Sprinkle olives, tomatoes, and green onion in that order. DONE!

I had to do this once. The whole class had to do how to speech on making a putterbutter and jelly sandwich. We actually had to make the sandwich in class following exactly how we wrote it. A lot of people ended with no sandwich. Because they did not write down open the jar, put the knife in the jar. lol

Here are some topics
How to care for a pet.
How to change oil.
How to change a tire.
How to wash a car.

Remember in a how to speech little details count.

Why don't you give a speech on how to surf the net. You should know how to do that.

start by what you're good at doing, and write them down. Brainstorm....You know..with the circles..what they taught us in elementary school.
