I'll speak from my 8 years experience in the Army. Specialist is a rank, and not a (pay) grade, though the only pay grade available to a specialist these days is E-4 (the fourth level of an enlisted soldier's career). Contrary to the posts above, Corporal (who also holds the same grade) is not an NCO (Non Commissioned Officer), but instead is a JNCO (Junior Non-Commissioned Officer).
The Corporal is slightly higher rank than the Specialist and is expected to lead soldiers in the field under the mentorship of an NCO; as the Corporal is training to be an NCO, but otherwise is no different than the Specialist. Both outrank the Privates (E1-E3) and are outranked by the Sergeant (E-5) and above.

It is E-4 in the US army. During the 1960's there were several
(4-9)specialist ranks however, today only E-4. Corporal is also an E-4 rank but it out ranks Specialist because corporals are NCO's non-commissioned officers. A specialist rank today doesn't have a connotation of MOS specially but is given instead of corporal in most non-infantry ranks. A person enlisting in the Army with a Bachelors degree will enlist as an Specialist.

Yes Specialist is an Army rank. It is E-4. There is also another rank equal to E-4 in the Army and it is a Corporal. The difference being that a Specialist is a normal enlisted soldier that may or may not serve in a leadership position but a Corporal is a Non-Commissioned Officer and always serves in a leadership position.

A Specialist is an e-4 in the army. A corporal is also an E-4 but considered a non-commisioned officer. Until the mid 80's their were spec4, spec5, spec6, spec7,spec8,spec9. all specialist paygrades above e-4 have been phased out.

Yep
Specialist is an E-4(enlisted). Above PFC below Sergeant. Equal in pay to a Corporal but not in responsibility.

In the Army it is a specialized E-4. So they typically have a special skill and have been promoted three times and working on becoming a Sergent.
