My mother in law has a phobia with bathrooms. She is deafly afraid to go into the bathroom by herself. Last weekend she was visiting my husband and I. We had to leave out for a couple of hours to do some shopping for the kids. When I got back home and walked into my kitchen, the smell was out of this world. There was doo doo plops and traces of urine in my kitchen sink!! I was mortified. She had even used my dish cloth to wipe her stankin butt!!
When I asked her what in the world was she thinking, she said that she really had to use the bathroom but couldn't hold it in any longer. Since she is afraid of the bathroom she thought that it would be ok with my husband and I if she used our kitchen sink as the toilet!! I was heated!
My husband didn't think that it was a big deal. He just said that we shouldn't leave her alone for such a long period of time. Why should it be ok for mother in law to use my kitchen sink as a toilet??

No it is unsanitary. It could cause your family to get sick. My suggestion get her toilet chair. It is a chair/toilet. get her a little thing of purell. That isn't a bathroom just a toilet she shouldn't have a problem with that. P.S. don't forget the toilet paper. and I would burn the towel she used to wipe her butt. Also get your mom to see a shrink.

Ugh..NO!!! Not just because it is unsanitary, it is just not normal behavior. Has your mother in law been treated for any physiological disorders. Here is what I suggest...set your boundaries...tell both her and your husband that if she is going to come over she is required to use the bathroom!! If you have to go with her fine, but if she ever uses the kitchen sink or any other sink for that matter she will not be able to come over to visit. If you have to leave her alone make sure she goes before you leave..give her a diaper. Tell her and your husband that if she is not going to use the bathroom like any other normal human being then she can do it in her diaper and clean up after herself.

I would take her somewhere to get over her phobia of bathrooms. It was wrong on so many levels for her to use your kitchen sink as a bathroom. I would also talk to your husband and make him understand that you have kids in the house and your mother can't be using the bathroom in the sink.

Why don't you just get a bucket ? And i can't believe you have to wonder if it is okay for this psycho to use you kitchen sink as a sh!tter! What does she do get up on the counter and squat over the sink? Hopefully you are joking, if not rip out your sink and head to the nearest Home Depot pronto, for a bucket and sink

OMG! That's horrible!?!?!? Now, I'm not going to say that it's ok to for mother-in-law to use your sink as a toilet, but I'm thinking the reason your hubby was ok with it is because that's his momma, but try and talk to him and reason and explain that it's NOT sanitary for anyone to poop in your sink!!! That's unhealthy...and just plain wrong! Perhaps seeing a psychiatrist of some sort to help her get over her phobia will help her get over it no?

Ha, this reminds me of when I used to live in my friend's garage, and there was no bathroom in there, so we would just use those big sinks that are next to the washer and dryer, know what I'm talking about? But it was so tall we had to put a step stool in front of it, and to give it a little extra class, we stapled a plastic shower curtain to the ceiling in front of it.....good times :)

OMG!!!!!

That is probably one of the grossest things I've heard in a long time. Having said that, she is clearly crazy and your husband is absolutely right! NEVER leave her alone in your home, unless you, too, want to be driven crazy!

ps I hoped you thoroughly disinfected that sink and threw the dishcloth in the trash!

That's just sicked and warped. I guess you could leave papers around the house like you do for a puppy. Get some counseling pamphlets for her to see a nut doctor or something. Weird stuff.

Your mother-in-law appears to have a mental illness. I urge you to take her to an MD for evaluation & reccommendation to seek counselling for her. Her fear of bathrooms & her reactions seem to be a deep seated disturbance that you & your husband alone won't be able to overcome. Good luck, dear!

Better to poop in the sink than to drink from the toilet.
