The Malibu seems to kick some butt with its reliability ratings on JD Power...but so does Camry.

When it comes to reliability, who wins this fight?

Toyota of course. I'm only 12 and I know that.

Toyota in a landslide. The JD power is probably initial reliability. As Toyota had a few recalls recently, their rating were probably down a little. Looking at past history, there is not a single GM product that has performed as well as Toyota. I would also consider resale value. The Malibu will depreciate a lot more than a Camry. Get the Camry, it is the better car. If price and features for the money are the biggest factors, I would even look at a Hyundai Sonata and a used Accord before the Malibu. If you are a GM loyalist, look at the Saturn Aura, it is basically the same car as the Malibu.

I've owned a Malibu for more than 2 years, and definitely would go with that. Then again, I would never even consider a Toyota...just not my thing.

I've got 61K on my Malibu (it's an '04 model), get the regular maintenance done (in other words, regular oil changes and tires rotated), did have to get new tires last year...but so far, that is it. I do plan to be in the market for an SUV later this year, but only because I'm tired of driving cars especially at night with somebody's headlights blinding me...but when I do get my SUV it is almost guaranteed to be another Chevy. And I will also say that 2 years ago, we had the third worst winter for our area...I missed one day of work (my commute at that time was 70 miles roundtrip into the state of michigan) and that was because #1- we had so much snow I couldn't find my car and #2 - my dad, a cop at that time, informed me that should I be caught out on the road and it was not an absolute emergency, i would be arrested (level 3 snow emergency for my county). In other words, my malibu can hold it's own in snow storms for this area.

And please people...when offering opinions...go with what you know based on what you drive - at 12...your opinion really doesn't amount to much.

Toyota, hands down. The Malibu is vastly improved over what it was when they first reintroduced the badge but it still doesn't compete with the leader in that class - the Camry. Consider resale value, consider insurance rates, consider that the Camry is one of the main reasons that Toyota is in #2 in North America and expected to surpass GM.

Camry is a solid car, atleast from my experience. I had a 91 for several years and it had over 200,000 miles on it...it would have kept on ticking had it not had an oil leak (it was 15 years old, mind you) I happen to prefer Toyota over Chevy, but that's just me. The oil leak was the only problem I ever had, other than that, it ran like a champ. I can only imagine that the new ones are just as good, if not better. And let's not forget the resell value of a Toyota is pretty high.

Camry wins the modern ratings. But then get down to a say, 76 Malibu for stying versus camry. Then it is Malibu all the way.
