Saying 'hello' on the phone is 'moshi moshi'.

on the phone: "moshi moshi"
colloquial: "ya!" or "ohsss" (for men only)
informal: "dohmo" or "ohayo" (morning only or if you are a service worker/in entertainment)
polite: "ohayo gozaimasu" (morning only/all day in service, entertainment) "otsukaresama desu" (greeting in the same company upon meeting in the hallway, in the same room or on the elevator) "konnichiwa" (afternoon only), "konban wa" (evening only)....the list goes on and on....
