The modern Indian food is full of very hot spices and oil. Forgetting that stuff, traditional Indian food is healthy. Why wouldn't it be healthy? Grains, vegetables, fruits, beans... can't easily go wrong with that sort of diet. Good to lose weight? Do you mean losing excess fat? To lose excess fat, all you have to do is exercise more or eat less. You can eat everything and anything if you exercise enough without gaining fat. Raise your metabolism through exercise and you'll never have excess fat no matter what you eat. Take up the sport of bicycle racing. Ever seen a bicycle racer with excess fat? Nope. Why? It's impossible, just as being an endurance runner. So, do some exercise and the fat will melt away, and you'll notice that you won't even be able to eat food that is unhealthy for you, because it will soon make you sick. Try eating a good fast food meal before or after an intensive training session or a race. You'll puke. Try eating rice and vegetables, and you'll be fine. Simple. It's called listening to your body; your body will determine if something is healthy or not, but if your body is not working properly or is sluggish, it is less likely to communicate. The more you exercise, the more sensitive your body becomes and the more it will communicate with you. That’s my advice, anyway.

Indian food is very spicy and tasty. Thats what its known for.

How ever there are food items in India that like those in any other countries which will help you both lose or gain food.

So it all depends upon which food item you are talking about.

Indian food eaten in restaurants can be high in calories, but traditional food at home is much healthier. Rice is high in carbs, so eat in moderation or skip altogether and stick with the Indian flatbreads.

In a word no! But it depends what you have. Most dishes are quite oily, rice and naan are high in calories.

If you something with a tomato based sauce rather than a creamy one that would be healthier or dry chicken tikka (not v.appetising I know)!

Beats the hell out of fish & chips! Tastewise, healthwise, you name it! Have YOU ever seen a sick Indian?
But seriously, obesity is uncommon among Indians. And I love Indian food. Excuse me please, I'm just off to to have a Dall Paratha and Chicken Jalfrezi!

It is often very high in calories, and best avoided when on a calorie controlled diet.
