It is true - in a way!

When prisoners went without food for a long time, they found out that 'Tea' helps to take away starving sensations. Same with coffee.

Now cigarettes don't do that BUT, smokers prefer a cigarette to a biscuit any day after a meal.

The reason there are fat smokers or coffee drinkers is simply because their genes generally come from a slow metabolism family.

My mother doesn't eat biscuits or cake or anything tasty and she struggles to lose a couple of pound in weight. She blames it on her age, genes and lifestyle.

Smoking DOES help you lose weight as it suppresses the appetite. If a fat guy smokes, blame it on his five cakes which he ate before his tab.

Nicotine is a mild appetite suppressant, so most smokers who quit gain 10-15 pounds over the first 3 months. Caffine is a stimulant, which will both suppress the appetite and cause more activity (more burned calories). So while some smokers/coffee drinkers may be fat, they would gain even more weight if they stopped smoking and drinking coffee.

No mater what anyone says it's more important to be health than thin. Eating good foods in moderation and exercising daily (min of 15 min of exercise for exercises sake) will keep you healthy. Smokeing and drinking TOO MUCH coffee will make you not sick per se but not healthy.
The average women in the US is 5'5" and between 125-145 pounds, the average model is 5'8" and between 90-102 pounds. The BMI showes that a woman 5'8" should weigh between 126-154, that's just not healthy.

Smoking will not help you be thin. In the long run, many heavy smokers develop COPD, or Chronic Obstructive Puliminory Disorder, and end up with a barrel chest. So, it will catch up with them.

Coffee contains caffeine, which is somewhat of an appettite suppressant. Many OTC diet pills contain caffeine as their primary ingredient.

They are not thin because it is not true.

Coffee and smoking can suppress the appetite but will not make you thin. Also after your body gets used to smoking and caffeine it will no longer suppress your appetite and now all you have are two bad habits. It is a very unhealthy way to try and lose weight. I would compare it to saying cocaine is good because you will stay thin.

Smoking makes you thin, you get thin during your chemo treatment.
Caffiene works as a diuretic, you lose water weight.
So, don't try that as a diet plan. Instead, eat a balance of everything. Seriously follow the FDA pyramid. It really does work better than any diet.
