Hello Deaf friend!
I can tell you a few there. I was born deaf in both ears but can only wear hearing aid in one ear. As of today..One of my ear that wears hearing aid is loosing hearing more and its not getting better so. So basically I have been in touch with the Hearing World as well as Deaf world.
A lot of times I really do wish I could hear like a Hearing Person.... music is one of them that I love the most .....look below.
One of the few things is good which Hearing People cannot do...

take out the hearing aids when the sounds can be unbearable screaming kids or loud bad music, sleeping really soundly, signing to other person who knows ASL when hearing people who don't know signs can be fun, using TDDy Phone, close caption on TV's, can take your trained dog to public places, etc.

The disadvantages is communication with Hearing really sucks because either its hard to understand if you can lip read them or they don't have patience with you. Not being able to hear really good music, or catch on with group conversation, whisper, phone to talk on, sing, Hearing people don't really understand being deaf unless they have been in your shoes, sometimes Hearing people thinks you are a stuck up because you didn't respond when they hollar for you, etc.

But there are stuff for the Deaf or Hard of hearing can get to make it better or easier to get better in their lives by looking at the links below and check them out. They have TDDY's, alarm clocks, watches, doorbells, fire alarms...you name it they do have those for you. I don't have the address of Harrison Communication but check that one out also.
If you don't know Sign Language or ASL..there are Community Colleges that do have classes for that. It is fun and I am glad that I took those classes.
Check out Chat addresses as well so you can communicate with more Deaf people.
But if you need hearing aids or Cochlear Implant..check with your Audiologist in your area and they can give you the recommendation. Don't go to people who just sell hearing aids. Go to the real DR'S. They know this stuff better about you than who sells it.
I wished you the best *hugs*
=)

I've been severely-profoundly deaf since I was 2 (due to meningitis). I love being deaf. Every time my mom keeps trying to tell me of the hair cell regeneration to cure deafness, I keep telling her I don't want to cure my deafness. I like that I don't have to listen to anything at night when I'm asleep. And I love the technology that's available for the deaf so that they can hear. The wireless FM systems? Oh they're GREAT for listening to music! And someday I would like to get a cochlear implant.. Even with a cochlear implant, I still would have the choice to be "hearing" or "deaf". If my deafness was cured, then I wouldn't have that choice, and I love having the choice.

Bad things about being deaf.... Misunderstanding things, not hearing well... hmm.....

reward - too many to record. the affection, the delight, the completed experience, its surprising. Even being pregnant and labour, I enjoyed it! (achieveable) disadvantages - loss of independence/freedom, they're incredibly not undemanding artwork and could pass away you broke. yet those are trifling disadvantages that are far greater advantageous outweighed with the aid of the surprising subjects being a make certain brings. i admire my son, he's my finished existence and that i fairly would be unable to declare that I omit my previous busy, socialising existence. i could cuddle up at domicile with my surprising little guy and watch Teletubbies, lol!!!
