Some prayers are novena prayers while some are simple prayers not really "composed" as novenas. May I still use these prayers for novenas or must I use novena prayers?

The composed noveana prayers are just suggestions. A novena is a prayer said for nine days (or in any number of nines, like nine Mondays, or nine months). What you pray doesn't matter, it's if you're doing a novena, you stick to saying it nine times. As mentioned, it can be for nine Mondays, or nine days, or nine weeks, as long as the number is a nine something.

You can certainly design your own novena, which is simply prayers said on nine consecutive days for a particular intention.
