Try another one. Wellbutrin works best for me. Paxil is evil...stay away from it.

I had the exact same thing happen to me with zoloft. I went to my doctor and complained of "drunk" feelings and dizziness. I told him that I felt giddy and it was exactly like drinking 4 beer. He was so stupid that instead of stopping the medication, he sent me to a neurologist because my coordination was so bad, lol. I never had the reaction as bad with other antidepressants, but another doctor thinks the reason I got "high" is that I'm bipolar and antidepressants are not good for bipolar people. I'm not sure whether I'm am or not, but I will never take an antidepressant again without being on a mood stabiler at the same time. Being the only drunk guy at the party isn't fun, lol

You need to speak to your pharmacist and/or doctor who is treating you for your depression. Every medication is different. Antidepressants work on the neurotransmitters in the brain so they naturally alter the way you feel. They can often cause marked drowsiness, mood changes, confusion, memory problems etc. Sometimes it is because you are on too high of a dosage. Alot of doctors make the mistake of giving their patients too high of a dosage to start off with rather than having the patient work their way up.

Speak to your doctor, ask them if that is a normal side effect and if it will get better as your body adjusts to the medication. I would say that if you are still feeling like this in another week or so then you need to seriously consider asking your doctor to change your medication. Not every drug is right for every body.

Good luck...

It usually take about 2 weeks for the drug to kick in and do it's job. Most of the time, when starting on these types of meds, a person will feel sleepy, dizzy, etc. It should pass after taking the drug for about 2 weeks. Call your doc. You should not stop taking these types of meds without consulting your doc before hand.

you should talk to your doctor. i had this problem with prozac in the beginning but it eventually faded. that doesn't mean that it will for you though. still, you should never stop taking anti-depressants without your doctor's knowledge or consent. if the symptoms you're experiencing are so severe to the point where you feel like in order to function you must stop taking them, your doctor needs to adjust your dosage or put you on different meds.

you need to change meds if you feel that way.
I took the generic form of prozac for 3 months and i felt a lot better about life in general. I never felt like I was on drugs or anything like that.
You might have to keep switching meds till you find the right one for you.

Antidepressants take time to take affect and for side effects to give way. But if it is really intolerable, talk to your doctor. All antidepressants (drugs) have side effects.

Perhaps you need to talk to your doctor about what other drugs and/or foods you should avoid mixing with them, or if they're (the antidepressants) are doing you any good or not.

Yes try another one-they don't all do that. Another poster said Paxil is evil--that's the only one I liked and worked for me--you see, different things work for different people.

my partner said he tried antidepressants and loved them.... he reckoned it was like .... "gee I want a smoke..". "Nahh cant be bothered lighting one.... ".... and "I really should be worried about that cut on my hand... Oh who cares"

but he couldnt sleep and instead learnt that he didnt really need the antidepressants... he just needed to accept himself for himself...
