I really need to know which is the best way.

I play in an indoor winter softball league and we have practice three nights a week. Right at dinner time.

Should I eat before going to practice or wait until after?

Thank you!

I usually wait until after. I find that if I have a full meal before playing I'm more likely to get a cramp since blood supply is being diverted to my digestive track. If you think you'll get hungry while playing, eat a trail mix bar or something else light to get you through and then have a light dinner afterwards. You may find that your appetite is suppressed after exercise, which is a great way to cut a few more calories.

Eat after practice. If you eat before, then your body is using it's energy to digest. This will decrease your performance at practice. Also, after exercise, your body is able to process food better, and you will get a better nutritional benefit from what you eat.

Rather than having a bit meal before or after I think you should have a snack before your practice, such as a banana and some nuts which will give you energy and a light meal afterwards (such as a tuna salad).
