My boyfriend and I moved in together he bought a house under his name since my credit is bad. I pay for half of all the expenses. During a conversation last week he mentioned that if something happend to him, the house goes to his kids. He said he would put something in writing for them to allow me to stay there until my kids are all grown. Does this seem fair or am I wrong? If anything since I pay half of the bills I should be entitled to half of the house?

Since you're not married and there's nothing in writing that gives you claim to the house, you have no legal rights to it. You need to get him to put your name on the deed. If he doesn't then you 2 need to have a very very serious conversation.

That is very wrong. You want to tell him that you want your name on the deed for the house splitting ownership 50/50. They can do this even if the loan is only in his name. Wells Fargo was going to do it for my fiance and I but we ended up getting a loan together. If he won't do that, you need to stop paying for any of the bills because you are going to get screwed!!

It might not be fair, but it's legal. Your name is not on the house; none of the house is yours. If he dies, his possessions go to his heirs (unless you're married, then it goes to you even if your name isn't on the house). It doesn't matter if you choose to help out with the bills or not.

Do you pay any of the mortgage? If you do, tell him that any rental income from you must be declared on his taxes. Or insist that a percentage of the houses principal be put in your name.

If you get married then you are entitled to half.
His half he wants to look out for his kids.
Ask him why isnt he looking out for you.
Big deal you can stay there.
What do you want?
Maybe you should start thinking of an exit stragie!

he can do what he wants, he is basically just charging you rent. if you ever get married then things will change, but in the eyes of the law, you are just a roommate paying rent. sorry hun, but its true. and make him pay taxes because he is like your landlord, if he doesnt want to then you can take him to court, but that might mess up your relationship, its totally up to you if you want to do whats right with the law or with your relationship.

You are so right. You should inherit half of the house.

Yeah you should and I'd be pissed. Seriously talk to him because it is not right that he is treating you as the third wheel. That or leave him. He doesn't seem very loyal.
