There is a lot of sign design software available. A Yahoo search for "sign design software" (include the quotation marks in the Yahoo search box) yields 1,980 results. There is a lot to explore. Here is a link to a site where you can design your own sign using online tools:

Other search that you may find useful include: "painted sign design", "sign painter fonts", and any other variations you can think of.

Good luck with your sign painting project.

I am guessing you should try Adobe Illustrator.

Adobe has 3000+ fonts available for Illustrator and within the software itself, you have full control to take a typeface and modify it in any way imaginable... 3-d, angled, grab one point and pull it out... ANYTHING!

Once you're done creating, you can save it as a PDF and send it to a printer... if it's a large sign, take it to a local print shop with a large format printer and they can print it on paper for you. Bring that home, trace it and hand paint away!
