I recently have started grinding my teeth in my sleep, and it feels horrible every morning. I wake up with a headache, sore teeth, sore jaw, etc. I know there are a lot of sites with info on teeth grinding, but does anyone here that has TMJ have any ideas behind why we grind our teeth?

its one of those reflexes from your ancestorial monkey which you have inherited.

You may have noticed that it is a common reflex in many animals to grind /bare their teeth when provoked or stressed.

When you are stressed you dream stressful things and so you bare your teeth/ grind them to pieces.

Get a night guard for your teeth before you grind them to bits... they can fracture and chip and get shorter if ur not careful.

You can probably give your jaw massages. There are a lot of videos on how to help your muscle relax. And i think, even though you might take out the mouth guard while you're sleeping, try to keep using it night after night, eventually your body will know that you need that at night and will stop taking it out.

The medical term is bruxism. Stress has got a lot to do with it. You need to manage the stressful factors affecting your life.
