It is more accurate and easier to work with decimals than fractions. It is all based on the earth and not just various units.

The metric system breaks down into units of 10 (instead of 12), therefore it is convenient when using fractional units, is easier to take measurements, and is easier to use for design purposes. It is also the world wide standard, outside the U.S. A global system of measure is efficient because it allows trade without wasting time for conversions.

The only convenience of the English System is that there are many people familiar with it in the U.S. Thus, Engineers, Architects, and Construction Workers “think” in the English System and might be unfamiliar with metric units.

I grew up in germany , and never really got to use the Imperial system , although I was born in Canada before they switched to metric , I was too young to know the difference.

When I moved back to Canada in 1976 , I knew the metric system inside and out , and in the 5th grade taught it to my teachers. Canada was just switching over at that time.

The advantages of it are that is is so easy. Being a base 10 system , everything is easilly converted (meters to kilometers etc.) Whereas in the Imperial system , no conversion really has rhyme or reason.

I see absolutely no disadvantage to the metric system. I think the whole world should use it.

Easy stuff - water freezes at 0 degree.
- water boils at 100

1000 meters to a kilometer (kilo means 1000) , so easy to work with.

I find with the Imperial system there is more memorization involved.

Metric is a base-10 system. Everything is by multiples of 10, not 4 or 12 or 5280.
