Well there are no absolute answers to this question.
No doubt you have a free will and there is power in the choices you have to make in life that may shape your destiny. But underlying the choices we make, isnt there also God who orchastrates the circumstances by which you have to make choices for? One who already knows the outcome so as to have you know even through this question you made a decision in asking would have you to acknowledge Him. Nothing happens by coincidence.

That’s a very honest question and I’m sure a lot of people out there are wondering the same thing. In my personal spiritual beliefs I feel like, to some extent, we are in control of our destiny—and if our choices don’t shape our lives the way we originally planned, that’s like a greater force telling you it wasn’t truly meant to head in that direction, and to reevaluate the situation you see disappointment in and see the lesson that is buried beneath what you would see as “holding you back from your fate.” Materialistic needs can’t be accounted for as a part of your destiny because in our creation it’s been for told and explained in many different religions that those needs cloud your true purpose- and your ability to tap into your inner self. As human beings we roughly use a small percentage of our brains in the first place, so you have to think- what do we really know about the true definition of the terms “fate” and “destiny.” All we know is what we’ve been told- so technically we’re feeding off of someone else’s reality, or dream- or what that person originally perceived when they stumbled upon the terms—hence how we know what they are today. So rather than get frustrated with the minor, off-road detour, life can throw at you, step back and take a look at the situation in a broader spectrum and try your best to see the forces behind why it really didn’t work out quite as you planned. This will help you grow as person, and also help you understand your life and where you’re truly suppose to be headed. Hope this helped!!

It sounds like you are having some faith issues. I have been there brother/sister. It is not a good place to be. I personally believe that fate is fate. People say that you can change fate, But to change some thing that has not happened yet you would have to know the future to change the outcome. The best advice I can give is also the most simplistic. Just pick a road and make the best of the ride ahead. Don't sweat what you cannot change and never lose sight of the little things that make life what it is. Blessed be

We do control our fate/destiny to an extent. I decide whether or not I will become a successful business woman with a husband, 2 kids and a white picket fence OR a lazy, un-educated McDonald's employee for life (no offense to McDonald's employees). But you must take into account that there are external factors working in the world. Economy, opportunity in the business world, personal accidents, etc. We decide our fate, but sometimes we lose control for a bit because the world around us isn't completely amendable to our decision.

Every living being is controlled by the laws of nature at every minute, just as a citizen is controlled by the influence of the state. The state laws are grossly observed, but the laws of material nature, being subtle to our gross understanding, cannot be experienced grossly. Every action of life produces another reaction, which is binding upon us, and only those who are acting on behalf of God are not bound by reactions.
Every man is certainly controlled by destiny, which determines the results of one's fruitive activities. In other words, one has a son or daughter because of unseen destiny, and when the son or daughter is no longer present, this also is due to unseen destiny. Destiny is the ultimate controller of everyone. One who knows this is never bewildered.
As soon as I get a particular type of body, my happiness and sufferings are all destined. This is our position.
So we are trying to make the situation improved because, after all, as soon as you get this material body, it is suffering. There is no question of happiness. But by the illusory energy, by illusion we are thinking we are enjoying. That is called illusion. Just like a hog is eating stool, but he is thinking he is enjoying.
But there is only one way that our destiny can be changed.....

Definitely yes, because we all possess the rational sense to make wise decision.
With the amazingly new means of communications, we can learn common values in the human life, and we can make collective progress on the bright direction. If we create opportunities for our children to enjoy physical, intellectual, spiritual education, they will attain better achievements than us. Due to lack of understanding, mankind in the past were not aware of each other, therefore the levels of development differ greatlly among various individuals and communities. This is the time we are entering the new phase of globalization, we will really learn to love and to assist each other in building a world civilization for all the human race.

If we control our destiny it will cause mayhem & misery to the world. Things are suppose to happen in the community for example:
