1) Increase your muscle tissue with weight training. Your body burns calories while you are at rest in order to maintain the muscles.

2) Eat more frequently. Instead of eating 3 times a day, eat half as much 6 times a day. On the 3 times a day plan, your body has a tendency to shut down the metabolism between meals because it knows you will not eat again for 5-6 hours. If you eat every three hours, your body will keep the metabolism ramped up because it knows that you aren't going to starve yourself.

3) Take about 1-2 tablespoons of flax seed oil or fish oil at night. Yes this sounds counterintuitive because these oils are pure fat. But it will help burn extra calories while you sleep through thermogenesis. You will actually feel warmer during the night. Maybe sweat a tad more or want to turn the heat down a bit. This is your body burning calories.

4) Stay away from sugar or processed carbs that spike your insulin levels. When your insulin is high, your body is in fat storage mode. This is why you have a tendency to want to take a nap after a big starchy lunch full of rice, bread, or pasta. Your body's metabolism has shut down because it is trying to store the fat.

5) Stay away from stressful situations. Stress raises cortisol levels. Cortisol lowers metabolism and breaks down muscle tissue.

Hope this helps.

The only SAFE way to raise metabolism is regular exercise. This has the double benefit of being good for the respiratory and circulatory systems.
