Once I'm well again I want to start doing more exercise. I'm worried about how much exercise I'm allowed to do at my age. Because my gym teacher said not to do weights and stuff. I walk the dog, go swimming every now and then and I'm considering joining the thursday gym I don't know why but my fitness doesn't seem to improve? I'm not wanting to lose weight or anything just want to improve my fitness! P.S. I'm almost 14!

hi i'd suggest taking up a hobby like tennis, vollyball, or even badminton anything sporty really you'd be able to do it once or twice a week and it'll keep you fit and healthy.

in years to come you'll be thankful for it.

At 14 you should be able to do a large amount of physical activity. And that's probably the best thing for someone like you, I wouldn't necessarily say exercise. Why not join a sports team or maybe take up dance? A swim or track team will whip you into shape pretty good.

I agree with the gym teacher about the weights, you should not start any kind of heavy lifting as your body is still developing. If however you could get into a light lifting program that would be good.

If you think an exercise routine is best for you then maybe you could put together something where you'd run/bike/jump rope/swim (something that gets you going) for at least 30 minutes at a time, 3 days a week. Then maybe throw in some light weights or better yet, sit ups, push ups, chin ups, things you can work your muscles with that doesn't involve any weight other than your own body-weight.

Do not worry about how much exercise you are aloud to do at age 14. My God, as I read I thought an 80 year old person was asking the question!

It is logical to take into consideration the KIND of exercise you do, that is something else.

Do whatever you enjoy: walk the dog, jog, swim, ride a Bike, join a team of any sport you fancy. At your age, you will get tired before exercise harms you. Even weight lifting could be all right if done properly and with caution. For this, join a gym and get good counselling.

Most of all, enjoy whatever you want to do, just keep active, at least, 3 times a week.

Cheers!

Your youth is your advantage because the earlier in life you make regular exercise a habit, the better off you will be in later years. Some ppl put off regular exercise until they are diagnosed with diabetes or have a heart attack and then sometimes it's too late.
Swimming is good exercise but it needs to be regular instead of now and then. As the saying goes, any exercise you will DO is good exercise. Treadmill, stationary bicycle and elliptical trainers are also good additions to your routine.
Aim for exercise 3 or 4 days a week. You may not be able to go fast or very long starting out on the machines but that will happen over time.
Good luck!

Hi,

At 14 i would say ur r probably pretty fit anyways. U naturally r the younger u r.

My suggestion is to plot a route for either running or walking and do it either everyday or every other day, and time it, go as fast as u can without hurting urself and each time u do it u will see ur time become quicker this is a sign that ur fitness level is uping.

Or talk to ur gym teacher at school and see if they can set u a plan to help!

I'd say the best thing to do is find a sport you like and join a team (eg netball) or if u really wanna join the gym ask an instructor to make an exercise plan made personal to you.

in case you would be wanting to drop extra pounds the undesirable information is its fairly stressful to aim a particular section as fat shops are used up from everywhere in the physique and not in basic terms one place. If that is stressful to get the inducement my advice is do no longer do it too lots or too long. start up hassle-free. suited fat loss comes once you're appearing at 60 to 70 % of your overall performance. start up off via eating 2 glasses of water until now each meal (what you consume performs a considerable place). SO...once you get abode 2 glasses of water then promptly into snug clothing and out for a 40 5 min - a million hr walk. no longer sprinting yet no longer being lazy. in case you will discover a community on the factor of abode that could be a sprint up and down. additionally mixture up the place u flow. do this 3-4 circumstances a week and your on your way. As u get fit make it greater difficult. you will locate on the days u do no longer walk u wont sense surprisingly much as good.

Some more cardiovascular work would be good, faster swimming, runnng or some such. However at the stage you are with bones etc still growin don't over do it. There is no such thing as no pain no gain. If it starts hurting...stop.

Don't do what I did and do in your knees by age 20.
