First it depends on the strain. As with the flu virus that people get it also mutates. Truthfully this newest one has been rather tricky. The puppies seem to get much better with KC symptoms then take a drastic turn for the worse.

Second it depends on how quick treatment is started. Fluids - must keep the pet hydrated. Puppies die from dehydration from the diarrhea and vomiting not from the virus. The virus has to run it course just like any other virus. Often metro is given to help the stomach settle and ease some of the diarrhea and vomiting. Just as you would take pepto. (which can be given to your pup also) Kaopectate is good too.

Third it depends on where the pet is being treated. At home is usually best but very very difficult and very yucky. The vet it is done much easier with someone else doing all the clean up and administering fluids via iv. However sick pets go to the vet and your pups immune system is not helping prevent from other infectious germs your pup is coming in contact with. Usually the vet tech (not the vet) will administer antibiotics prescribed by the vet to help prevent a secondary infection. Usually clavamox or amoxicillan I prefer doxycycline for about anything.

fourth - You want to make sure your vet has someone on staff 24-7 even on holidays. Often small vet offices will release a parvo pet too early and the owner is not prepared. This can be even more traumatic

The puppy could live if seen by the vet. If you cannot afford for the dog to stay and get the fluids threw an I.V. the vet can give shots of fluid under the skin to help it stay hydrated. Then you can take the pup home. This is a much cheaper treatment. You should also give the puppy a syringe or two full of pedialite every 1/2 hour to help keep it hydrated. If the pup keeps that down after 2 hours give him a couple more syringe fulls. If your vet will not help keep calling other vets. I know in my area a lot of vets will collect change from patrons for an emergency fund. This is for a situation where there is a sick animal and the owner does not have money for treatment right away.Good Luck and please try to ease the pups pain. If nothing else try giving it the pedialite.

Dehydration can kill a puppy in a matter of hours but most puppies die within 2 days of lethargy... if you are facing parvo the best thing aside from a vet is to mix bread or rice with gatorade or pedia lite and some dry baby formula. this should be liquified in a blender and fed with a childs medicine dropper every 20 minutes to an hour.... i did 20 droppers full every 30 minutes. the dog will have explosive diarreah and vomiting but the trick is to get more in than they put out. it may seem fruitless at first but my dog was given a 20% chance of survival staying with a vet they wanted 385$ a day for 5 days. his survival was 10% if I brought him home. So I gave it my best mainly because of the cost I hate to admit but after 2 days he started to come around and drink a little on his own. that was 4 months ago and Im not sure hes sat still for 5 minutes since. if the ingrenients above are not around the house get creative....vitamins and a bland flavor are key along with hydration.liquify anything you can....bread rice non-sugar cereal....water chicken brith formula.....just no milk, eggs or meat because the natural bacteria will work against you.....good luck to you and your puppy.

also send someone to the pet supply and get a tube of protien/vitamin paste....you can add warm mater so it can be added to the other mix ...

The puppy may pull through. I had a friend that had a litter of puppies get it. 4 in all, about 11 weeks old. They all lived. 2 of them did look as if they weren't going to, then one day they got better. She took the 2 sickest ones to the vet to see what was wrong with them, and they did a test to say that it was parvo. The vet said there's not much you can do except make them comfortable and pray, the rest is up to the immune system of the pup. There was treatment but it would cost about $500.00 -$1000.00 per pup and there is still no guarantee. But that in 24-48 hrs. she would know if they were going to make it.
Hope it works out for you.

Parvovirus is many times surpassed directly to risky (dehydrated) canines. a physically powerful thank you to objective if a dogs has parvo (or is dehydrated) is to pull the exterior of their chest/chin down only a splash, if it keeps to be down then that's maximum possibly dehydrated and is greater at risk of the parvovirus yet whilst it is going lower back into place then the dogs is hydrated and much less at risk of the virus. you have executed the wonderful ingredient by using bleaching each and every thing down and getting rid of the products the puppy got here into touch with. you will get a dogs on the instant......yet i could be calling the SPCA on your shelter because of the fact needless to say the dogs grew to become into on the shelter long sufficient to be observed out (if it grew to become right into a stray they might desire to attend a minimum of each and every week, or greater, to undertake out the puppy). whether the puppy grew to become into born in the shelter they might desire to attend 8 weeks to undertake it out......i assume what i'm getting to is the puppy grew to become into there and clearly no longer cared for ok because of the fact it shriveled parvo and died. BTW: parvo is many times only present day in puppies below a million year previous.....in line with threat you ought to discover an excellent puppy that has reached the a million year mark yet remains a puppy.

well not long but you should take the dog to the vet and have it put to sleep and if you dont do that and know the puppy has this it is animal cruilty.and after the pup is gone you have to clean your home very well you track on your shoes and you can take it to others animals.

It really depends on how much a toll the parvo is taking on the pup. I never lost a pup to parvo. We treat pups with I.V. fluid , under the skin fluids, and soap enemas. All have fully recovered, no losses.

With proper treatment quickly,it may not die. It will depend on how strong the pups immune system is.

Within days it is very fatal if not treated. It needs fluids and antiboitics, plus alot of care and love.

24 to 48 hours and the pup will be in pain so its better to go to the vet and have it put down.
